I got the musicianship of the album,I got the gist of the storyline what I didn't get and what left me cold (sorry not even lukewarm) was the whole album.
I vaguely remember too that when it was criticised those that loved it jumped on the 'well you just don't get it' bandwagon. That's true some of us didn't. Hasn't Ian said himself that it wasn't one of his favourites?

When you check the credits and you wonder who the hell is John Norman, well that would be me. I guess posting on the internet about Tull pays off after all.My scan now: Cheers! JohnN www.jethrotullgroup.proboards.com/post/1201/threadSORRY! Yes, I must thank The Jethro Tull Group for the picture, my scanner is not connected at this time. I cropped it to emphasize my credit. I have no malice toward The Jethro Tull Group.

Wow, impressive connections here to Mr. Anderson and company here. Kudos for the recognition! Advanced mini review of the upcoming APP remix release is much appreciated.
The APP release was the ultimate Tull achievement in my book. Gone is the lightness, humor, recurring themes, clever and smooth transitions and thematic development of TAAB. APP brought dark, complex, dissonant music, with abrupt transitions, and an expanded sonic palette of synthesizers and soprano and sopranino saxes. And lyrics of death and the afterworld, a modern day Dante's Inferno. Not a good Tull starter album, but one that must be understood, if one is to truly understand Tull.

Welcome to the Forum rbgflute I like your descriptions of APP - it was certainly a very different sound after the (Tull) albums that went previously and is probably the most unique piece of music he has ever done. I have to disagree with your point that to like APP is to truly understand Tull. The diversity and amount of music over the decades allows understanding on many levels. I have found soul and depth in many other pieces of music that don't necessarily have or need to be radically different.

Dante's' Divine Comedy' ( Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise) absolutely the 'go to' opus amongst those of us not embarrassed to place Tull with the all-time classics ! I mean, calling it 'A Passion Play' was aiming pretty high, right?

Quite a poignant piece in today's Independent newspaper about Walter Tull considering it coincides with the release of the deluxe edition of APP concerning as it does with the spiritual journey of one man in the afterlife, aka Ronnie Pilgrim. A salutary and thought provoking article. Thanks Jim for making the images a little clearer.

Never mind that you're only half way through A Passion Play! Eh, seriously though, I'm actually going to go into the office tomorrow so the anticipation is that much more. If I work from home I'll have read the whole book and listened through both albums twice over. I'd rather wait for an evening of fun. The thing that I'm really impatient about is wondering how complete those hand full of songs that seemed to lack overdubs on Nightcap are. I'm worried the whole Chateau disc will be boringly unlistenable after a curious first take.

By the way, I'm curious if anyone will actually be buying APP from a brick and mortar record shop. I think SteelMonkey has a couple in San Francisco. Saddly, in Virgina, just outside of D.C., I don't know of a single existing shop. God I hate buying stuff online.

My plan A was to stop by a nearish record store and make them promise to get me an APP...Of course, they went out of business since last look...I ordered from Amazon and they estimate delivery by July 7. Looked for Homo at a big ( remember Peaches?) record store in Berkeley, just for hell of it, ....nothing.

I will be going to my local Newbury Comics this week to pick up the Deluxe edition of APP, and if I can afford it, ELP`s Brain Salad Surgery 3 CD set. Deluxe APP is $27.99 and Brain Salad is $19.99. Sadly, record stores are a dying breed. Newbury Comics, which was responsible for the demise of Tower Records in Massachusetts, had everything from comics to a large selection of CD`s and DVD`s. I use to spend hours looking in that store on a Saturday morning. Now it`s mostly clothing and novelty items.

When I ordered HE from Amazon, I was surprised that I qualified for a free digital download of the album. All I needed to do was download their Cloud Player (it`s free) and download the album to the player. You can also send a copy of the album to your music files. I don`t know if it`s because HE was $70, but it would be worth checking out. I received an email from Amazon on the day of the release. Maybe it will help while your waiting for July 7

None now exist in my part of the world - the last one closed about 4 years ago - Rhythm & Rhyme it was called. A small enterprise but with intelligent and well informed staff who knew what they were selling and would order music if it was still available and not in stock at the shop. I suppose it's the way of the world these days and I now order on line and try to avoid the rip off merchants. Try telling that to the kids of today with all their streaming and downloads - they wouldn't believe you.

Asheville Record Store looks nice. And there's a line! Take that Amazon! Newbury Comics being mostly clothing and novelty items...sad. My last attempt at the lunch break record buying ritual was at BestBuy for TAAB2. I went in and checked with them a week in advance of release and was assured it would be available on release day. Naturally, it was not. In fact, they NEVER stocked it at all. What was a huge music section is now down to two shelves crammed in a corner. Because I hate buying things online, the wife ordered APP and tacked on 17$ for release day shipping! It better get here today.
