We all know the real name of the child (Gerald Bostock) on the front cover ofThick As A Brick...André C. Le Breton... We here at the St. Cleve Chronicle would like to know who the little girl (warchild) is on the back cover of... well... Warchild! Does anybody have a story about her? Is she alive, and well, and living....? We are very concerned... A little child... posing with a gun! Among prostitutes and sailors... Even Dr. Livingstone seems to be there...! ...or that is what we presume! Not a good place for an innocent child (with a gun) ...to be! Please tell us if she is alright! ... and who she really is? Great post Equus. Also a very warm welcome!I for one did not know the name of the kid on TAAB except by Gerald B.
The little girl with the gun must have been a child model or associated with Chrysalis in some way. Also the other ladies were hired from some agency and even the Queen herself. In a bit of video trickery by someone with the ability to morph images, a few believed Ian was the Queen. After another chat group decided to ask, Ian confirmed he was not the Queen used for the album cover. Alas, the answer was not what they had wanted to hear.

I rather agree with Jim that, from what I've heard and been told, the "girl with the gun" was a model hired for the photo shoot but it would be interesting to know who she is and what she's doing now. Having said that, welcome to the Jethro Tull Forum equusMD

Thank you for the warm welcome maddogfagin! I have just changed the original post a little... I have always thought that the rugby players on the back cover of the warchild album really were sailors..! My mistake! Yes who is she, and what is she doing now?... and by the way... I think I read somewhere that Ian was trying to find André C. Le Breton just before Thick As A Brick 2 was due for publication, but they didn't succeed. Ian wanted him to be on the front cover of Thick As A Brick 2, not as a child, but as a grown man. When Thick As A Brick 2 was finally released Ian got in touch with him... I will try to find that story on the internet... So... maybe there will be pictures of an older version of Gerald Bostock on the upcoming Homo Erraticus? I have also changed the: We all know... because what do I know about what everyone knows? Sorry about that one too... lol...

Ian talks about Gerald Bostock, and receiving an e-mail from the real "Gerald Bostock"... André C. Le Breton: (... among other things...) Listen from about 7:20... There might be some errors in my translation of this outtake from the interview. Please tell me, if you discover some. - Equus"... and the male model, the young lad who (played..) was on the album cover, was just picked out of a, one of these catalogs of models, essentially. Men, women, children, parents. It was one of those theatrical castings, kind of modeling of magazines. agencies things, and I just picked this lad 'cause I thought that he looked like some young school boy, kind of precocious. And I just got an e-mail from him yesterday, and he's 49 years old, and he doesn't really remember anything about the shoot... 'cause to him it's just... his parents just dragged him along to this thing and he had to sit there and dress up in silly close, and pose for a photograph. He doesn't remember anything about it, until he saw some years later on his elder brothers record collection a copy of Thick As A Brick. And they said: "That's you on the cover!" So it's kind of a cute story. And sadly he did not made my re-acquaintance until now, and I was actually trying to find this guy, about three months ago. When I had rather hoped to find the grownup version of that young child model, and put him on the cover in his current state, and have him feature on the new album cover, but sadly he only made contact now, and it's too late, and the album is already put to bed, and the artwork is all done..."These lines are taken from the: Gerald Bostock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia page: link"The child model who portrayed Gerald Bostock in the original newspaper/album cover photograph was André C. Le Breton from the Elizabeth Smith Agency; he also appeared in European TV commercials in the early 1970s, and modeled for Freemans clothing catalogues and Russelda knitwear amongst others. Currently he is a music producer and has directed films for bands such as Crass Agenda under the Le Chaos Factory moniker."

Le Breton down, and make an interview with him, because I can't find an interview with him on the internet... Maybe a telephone interview exclusively for the Jethro Tull forum...

Okay... This started out with questions about the little innocent Warchild... (... don't you blame it on her...! It's the gun that kills, not the girl behind...!)...but I have found something interesting about Gerald Bostock, or André C. Le Breton: Whatever did happen to Gerald Bostock? Brick star mystery solved: www.google.dk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCwQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Faqualung-mygod.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F05%2Fwhatever-did-happen-to-gerald-bostock.html&ei=ZWPdUseTHo2Q4ASMtoCYDw&usg=AFQjCNGIMSPqK5qDjz0QzJetVh0ekfXbgQ&sig2=jLIRQFXy-TaxkU5UsR9ajg&bvm=bv.59568121,d.bGE&cad=rja
One of the most intriguing questions relating to Thick As A Brick 2, indeed from where the album takes its secondary title, is whatever happen to Gerald Bostock?. Well, now we can answer that question, because we´ve found him. Gerald "Little Milton" Bostock was the eight-year-old pictured on the front of the original StCleve Chronicles. His disqualification from a poetry competition is the focus of the main story in the paper. Having initially won the contest with the poem Thick As A Brick, he was then removed because of the poem´s offensive nature and his own psychological instability. Of course, all of this was fictional. It was child model Andre C Le Breton who played the role of Bostock 40 years ago. He went on to model for various clothes catalogues, before making a complete change in his choice of career. He ran his own recording studio, where he produced and engineered sessions for bands, most of which were demos. As he himself says: "Nothing too grand". But the main thrust of his studio involvement came in working on his own music. But if you´re hoping that his connection to Jethro Tull led him into progressive rock, then that´s not the case. "These days it´s pretty weird underground German sounding trance, blends of light and dark electronic noise, really", he says. London based, Le Breton works under the banner of Le chAos fActorY, and if you want to check out any of his works then go to www.myspace.com/lechaosfactory. We can also reveal that Ian Anderson tried to track down Le Breton, with the idea of having him on the front of the new StCleve Chronicle. However, at the time he was in remission from cancer and wasn´t well enough to get involved with TAAB2. But at least we now know that Gerald Bostock is alive and well, albeit rather older!.

Another excellent post on the real Gerald Bostock by Equus. This is why I like learning new things from everyone here including many of our newest members. We all have ideas and perspectives that make this a place of fun and understanding. It's better than being back in High School checking out the latest from Circus Magazine.

That's one freaky video. I've never taken illegal drugs but I can only imagine it's like an acid trip. Anyway thanks for the info on Gerald Bostock and a warm welcome to The Jethro Tull Forum from me. John

Absolutely disgusting! Send in the bird...! “I think on-stage nudity is disgusting, shameful and damaging to all things American. But if I were 22 with a great body, it would be artistic, tasteful, patriotic, and a progressive religious experience.” Shelley Winters

Le chAos fActorY Wow! Amazing André www.flickr.com/photos/lechaosfactory/with/2091250957/
I had no idea that Andre was such a creative fellow. This is interesting on many levels. Over the years I've seen some very cool videos by bands such as Nine Inch Nails and Rob Zombie, using similar forms of musical enhancement which is shocking and provocative.
Imagination has many forms including visual messages.
Without the videos of controversial style, many bands would never get noticed or become the success they are today. I would also include Tull although less dependent on MTV after "Kissing Willie".
In general I enjoy the imagery that is shown on the screen which is part of most Tull Gigs. Ian has his own ideas which can be translated through many forms of album art at his discretion.
The "Passion Play Tour" was really the beginning of such Live Concert effects that I was impressed by. Even with the technical difficulties at the time, I am still thankful to all the characters used in those days.

André is kind of cool! Great videos, and music... I think that André C. Le Breton is getting more, and more interesting the more we dig into this... he was probably into punk rock, in the late 70' and 80'... and come to think of it... he probably still is... Nine Inch Nails and Rob Zombie... Interesting Jim! Yes... the imagery that is shown on the big screen... I especially liked the Scuba diver during the TAAB, and TAAB 2 show! But everything was to my liking... I saw the show in Copenhagen, and they got a standing ovation! Everybody jumped on their feet... what a memorable show that was... I couldn't find the Scuba diver, but here is Iron-clad, Feather-feet pounding the dust...

Now back to the back cover of the War Child album... "The back cover of the album contains images of people, including the five members of the band, friends, wives, girlfriends, Chrysalis Records staff, and manager Terry Ellis, all related to the song titles. Anderson's personal touring assistant (and future wife) Shona Learoyd appears as a ringmaster, while Terry Ellis appears as a leopard skin-clad, umbrella-waving aggressive businessman." This was copied from the link below - Equus en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Child_%28album%29... So maybe the War Child is the child of a friend / chrysalis staff...? Maybe she is not from a model agency...?

There are so many pictures of nonrabbits out there, that we may be facing a full-scale invasion...!! Let's hope for the best! ... but maybe this isn't the worst! The picture below is believed to be a picture of a U.F.O. This sensational sighting was made by Miss Olga Jennings... (98...) and that in her own living room! She discovered the U.F.O. just about two hours after her son came back, from a trip to IKEA...!! Miss Olga Jennings told us that she believes that the U.F.O. may have followed her son, from IKEA, and all the way home to her apartment...

And a great picture of Ian... Jim! Have you put this together...? Thanks Equus! I wish I had the Photoshop skills that some possess, but alas I'm a humble collector of images since 1973. The "Ian in Space" would have been after his flute duet in April 2011 with astronaut Cady Coleman. It may have been generated by Tull Management at the time for the old website. Ian really digs the Universe.
