Managed to catch "The Magical Mystery Tour" on tv over Christmas, would never win an oscar but it was a harmless bit of experimental nonsense - makes a change from all the usual SimonCowellX-factorBritain'sGotTalent rubbish.

Managed to catch "The Magical Mystery Tour" on tv over Christmas, would never win an oscar but it was a harmless bit of experimental nonsense - makes a change from all the usual SimonCowellX-factorBritain'sGotTalent rubbish. I love the film, perhaps not for the acting (although Victor Spinetti was always somehow special and an extraordinary talent) but for the "Britishness" of the whole film. Really couldn't have been made anywhere else in the world. From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magical_Mystery_Tour_(film)The songs in order of their use in the movie: 1."Magical Mystery Tour" 2."The Fool on the Hill" 3."She Loves You" (played on a fairground organ as part of the general medley of background music during the impromptu race) 4."Flying" 5."All My Loving" (orchestrated, as background music) 6."I Am the Walrus" 7."Jessie’s Dream" (instrumental piece, not released on any audio recording) 8."Blue Jay Way" 9."Death Cab for Cutie" performed by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band 10."Your Mother Should Know" 11."Magical Mystery Tour" (part, once more) 12."Hello, Goodbye" (part, finale played over end credits)

We await your honest and impartial review Ms Rabbit. Friends either rave about it or seem to dismiss it out of hand. You might have to wait a bit longer as the only video shop in the village doesn't have it So now I need the advice of an accountant and lawyer to help me to read the fine print on joining either Lovefilm or Netflix? Any advice? I will give my honest appraisal of this. After seeing about 2 minutes of this, yes I actually do KNOW I can make an honest appraisal of it in said amount of time. I accuse Ian Anderson's son in law of playing his part in the dumbing down of this planet. A place in the realm of media I can mark as having its origins at the first Star Wars movie, with ancillary canals into heavy metal music, ultimate fighting, the over importance of sports in general, (and this from an avid sports fan, at least its real and improvised but given a mind numbing amount of importance)video games that deaden ones mind and spirit to the aspects of end game actual violence. I can see all too clearly with the long impending and in real time ignored perils facing this planet, some of which to my understanding, re the part per million of carbon in this atmosphere, as I understand it now irreversible, but never mind, go lose yourself in Rush and a light show. I mention Star Wars in particular not because it was precisely a bad movie, but it set such a very bad precedent, basically brought down to its component parts of ranking style before substance. Probably the happiest development I can think of in mass media in those nearly 40 years is Sir Alec Guiness absolving himself of any involvement, refusing to even discuss it. I did not need so esteemed a personage as his to confirm my own scoffed at perceptions, but I welcomed them from so truly fine an actor. If people are so dead set on viewing things involving the most base elements of violence, can we at least have character development, you know, real time actual stories. Maybe something about that WSJ reporter, a real developed show where you get to know those who loved him, a balanced look at the mindset of those who took him down, right down to the part where his head is severed in savage ceremony to where it can fall right in the laps of people who think they want to know about evil and violence. Or maybe even something not unlike Old School Song/Wooten Basset Town, of an average video game, football game, energy drink, 200 dollar gym shoes, tattoos not earned kid being suckered into this bravo go get who ever the perceived enemy is, only to find fighting mf's on a turf not at all like what ever delusional television commercial world they were bred on, and his pissing in his pants fear as he, or she, knows his ass is about to die. Basically, if its zombies and street hoodlums people want at least make it real as regards the true to life properties of evil and violence. In closing may I say 2 minutes was enough to say a big fat zero, and I am glad Ian does not talk about it any more than he does, it is an embarrassment, class one, but I am sure it pays a nice fat ass salary so Andrew can build a zombie tower next to Tull towers. Anybody up for a program about the derivitive products of Wall St that did so much to bring Spain and Greece to its knees? Trust me it would be interesting but you would damn sure have to be paying attention, I would never say its not sophisticated, but used in such a fashion very certainly evil. Or maybe something about that 19th century Belgian dude responsible for the deaths of around 20 million in the Congo, who somehow has managed to escape history's scrutiny, it would have plenty of arms being cut off, beheadings, torture, all the stuff we seem to love. f**k heavy metal, video games, zombies, lowest commond denominator forms of entertainment where ever they pop up. But it is too late. And we richly deserve what we have coming. Bless those people like the true participants in Occupy, those on the streets in Egypt, and our own SDS and Malcolm X in years long passed who tried to sound the bell, we chose the lowest common denominator. God bless America. wrong. Bless God America. Humble yourself once and finally before that which gave you life....Mother Earth. And not just in meaningless words and platitudes. So I don't just dislike Walking Dead and what ever multi million dollar summer blockbuster there is. I hate it.

I couldn't agree more...but as far as popular culture...can't say if the dumbing down is chicken or the egg. Face it, the information age...computers, media everywhere, 500 channels, TV that follows you from room to room...all the sickness and advertising muscle that our generation is pushing down throats...has already done to the brain what the industrial revolution did to the body. No way to slow down...it's hyper-capitalism...everyone selling everyone else crap they don't need, especially entertainment crap. NO WAY TO SLOW DOWN.

Finally I've been able to catch up with all the episodes of Star Trek Enterprise that I missed due to my previous work commitments. Having watched seasons 1 & 2 and most of season 4 when they were first transmitted over here in the UK, season 3 has been a revelation to this amateur Trekkie and not seeing these episodes before it revealed a much "darker" side to the series which was not evident in the previous episodes.
As a committed fan of the whole Star Trek franchise I have to say that on story lines alone, season 3 of Enterprise is, in my opinion, some of the best TV science fiction I've watched in a long time.
Whether you are a fan of the original Star Trek or Next Generation, Voyager or DS9, season 3 of Enterprise is superb television.

As most of my favored music predates or coincides with my arrival on this planet, so too was HSB nearing the end of its run at my debut ('85). My favorite tv show, beyond measure (think Secretariat at the Belmont), is "The Wire"....sooooo, I went looking for a similar grade of comprehensive excellence (acting, writing, physical location) within the crime/police-drama milieu. Wow! I've plowed through the first 2 seasons in no time and my attachment to the characters is nearly unrivaled in my viewing experience. The show really turned the corner in early season 2 when the writers transitioned to protracted, multi-episode themes and storylines.
This morning, out of a "where are they now curiosity", I made the mistake of googling the cast: imagine my devastation at discovering Michael Conrad's death from cancer while filming season 4...."let's be careful out there" indeed . Anyway, it's not bluray, but sound and picture are fantastic, episodes appear intact (according to critical commentary elsewhere), and all discs have yielded flawless play thus far. For $128 USD (Amazon fulfillment), these 144 episodes are a bargain!

Captain Holbrook was smart to eventually enlist the crime fighting prowess of Batman; however, he should've let him wear the costume (better ratings).*
*But for these search results ( link ), I have absolutely no earthly idea what I'm talking about!

If you fancy getting stuck into a crime drama then this is fab. Intrigue, suspense and very clever writing. The subject matter is very dark and sometimes a bit much to take in (not entirely comfortable with the subject aka child abduction as entertainment) but bloody hell the acting is superb all round. Just watched a hell of a good documentary about a group of young musicians from down the road from me in Cavan (not pronounced KAHvan as Elton John does)
They are so talented, great live and play their own stuff. They started out playing covers of Blues and are described as Dr Feelgood meets pub rock of the 60's and 70's Their second album featured more of their own music and is a bit heavier. The docu covers their approach to success and how they won't give in to the entrapment of fame. It also features the head of EMI and the reaction from all the A&R guys when they went to see them perform - priceless. Watch out for Jeff beck's comments at Ronnie Scotts.
I urge you to take the time, put the kettle on and give it a watch.

It'a a cracking documentary Jacko'thegreen I especially like the Dad's comments and the uncle's record collection! " I'm quite envious of them sometimes when you see them listening to something for the first time and getting such pleasure from hearing something new and getting energised by it" and Josh's dad - he of the ACDC t shirt sitting on a wall. "ACDC, Iron Maiden I liked a wee bit distortion"

I watched The Voice last night ( I can hear your groans) I actually quite like this one - it has a bit less nonsense that the rest of them. Tom Jones is funny too - he gets a bit grumpy and uncomfortable when asked nonsensical questions. He's blunt with no sugar coating although he's on a programme like this which calls for it he forgets sometimes. There was a guest appearance by Sia,an Australian singer, songwriter who has written top singles in the last few years for Beyonce, Rianna etc. She's the niece of Colin Hay - singer of Men At Work. What an amazing voice.

Currently watching Better Call Saul the spin off from Breaking Bad. The excellent Michael McKean is in it and that got me to Spinal Tap vids/interviews on Youtube. Jethro Tull Can't Escape Rabbit Costumes"One of the most famous moments in ‘Spinal Tap’ finds bassist Derek Smalls trapped in a pod on stage, fighting to get out as his bandmates performed ‘Rock and Roll Creation’ without him. For Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson, that hit close to home — very close. Only this time, the snafu involved rabbit suits during an early-’70s tour in support of ‘A Passion Play,’ rather than strange on-stage cocoons. ultimateclassicrock.com/jethro-tull-spinal-tap/i58.images obliterated by tinypic/2chw2kz.jpg[/IMG] i60.images obliterated by tinypic/29lzk3m.jpg[/IMG]

Watched the Sky arts feature - Greenwich Village - Music That Defined a Generation. www.sky.com/tv/show/greenwich-villageTotally blown away what great footage and info. Forgot that I wanted to live there when I reached teenage years. Just the teensiest bit too young for the mid sixties ..and the late sixties to be honest. Too many great features to mention. The beautiful Richard and Mimi Farina Harry Chapin ( a later song than the one featured on the programme)

A Very British Brothel ...Channel 4 documentary. Funniest thing I've seen in years pure Monty Python, Little Britain and Peter Kay with broad Sheffield accents. Old blokes who should be in allotments puffing and panting (wait for it) as they climb the stairs to the "Entertainment Rooms" Crappy channel 4 documentary but so funny and pure gold. " Clients who come in to the City Sauna on Christmas Eve get a free mince pie." The comments on twitter #averybritishbrothel are spot on as well. Catch it if you can.

It's going to be an insane trip down empire collapse lane watching Election2016 pick up momentum. One of the quotes from the documentary was although it's an alarming and unbelievably scary thought that he could be elected there are doubts (hope!) that the people he's appealing too are too poor to own a car and it's doubtful that his campaign group will be bussing them to the Polling Station. But the underlying point that made me laugh is that by the look of the ones in the film - they wouldn't walk to vote for him. (that's the nearest I can muster to a smile)

That's the first time too that I've heard Sarah Palin. I couldn't work out if she was talking in coherent sentences all I could make out was 'Guns, Wall and Yee Haw' Listening to Sarah Palin is a real brain quiz, trying without real chance of preparation (there is no school that teaches Palinography), to figure out what language she's speaking, how she's working her sentence structure, and what the hell she may mean and to whom. If you try, and it still doesn't make sense, you're one of the majority. She's going to be part of the Trump campaign apparently, and that has comedians very very happy. I figure, if she's in the lower 48 campaigning, she's not in Alaska with a machine gun shooting helpless wolf packs from helicopters, or processing live turkeys in the slaughterhouse she has set up in her front yard.
