I'm a little late on this pole I think. The albums I checked are some of my favorite tull albums. Thick is a brick is awesome. The music is just great. Love minstrel in the gallery for the music and lyrics. Songs from the wood lways cheers me up. With heavy horses, the style is unique and Ian's voice sounds different which makes it interesting, and the music is great as well, not to mention John glasscock's base playing. Warchild, well, I love most of the songs on it, especially the timing of the song sealion, it's just different. What timing are the drums? Anyway, those are my picks.

Tough to pick just 5. Oh yeah, if anyone picks the Christmas Album they need to be permanently banned from this board. I'm just having a look at old threads (do I have too much free time? I should be studying actually) and well, I just had to answer here. I wouldn't pick that album in my top 5, but it does make my top 7 or 8... I honestly don't see what's wrong with it... I find it excellent

Surprised to see MITG and HH so high (don't get me wrong, I voted for 'em)... steelmonkey, do pity me then, because, although I disliked it at first, now I'm in love with A Passion Play (except for the last five minutes). Oh, and (hate me) I find the first half ot Thick as a Brick perfect, then the second half gets a bit repetitive at times, it sure does have flaws.
Damn, this thread has been left alone for four years...

For myself it's not a case of "worst" but "weakest" but even then every album has good and bad on it - some Tull fans are not keen on "APP" and others dislike "This Was" but for me both are excellent so it's down really to a personal thing.

Worst, weakest, we mean the same thing here, sorry for my English personally I dislike most of Under Wraps and Rock Island, and then I'm not especially fond of This Was, Catfish Rising, Roots to Branches and maybe Dot Com... still, I don't consider those four bad albums, just not good enough according to Tull standards.

Totally agree with Graham, for me Catfish is not one of the worst Tull albums, nor so even close of the worst...maybe Dot Com, a very commercial album, commissioned to promote the web?... maybe... But for me they all have the unmistakable TULL stamp

Aqualung Stand Up Living in the Past (it WAS an album to me, not a compilation, when it came out -- I was 12) TAAB Songs from the Wood and then Minstrel in the Gallery, if I pretend to have forgotten how to count to five.

The Tull Christmas Album is a very good album, and even if you weren't a Tull fan, it would still be better than your average weak musical attempt that just repeats the same old "Jingle Bells" or other Christmas standard while making no attempt to provide a fresh edge and make it worth listening to. I've been considering writing some winter holiday songs, because I think it's a great time period between Christmas and New Years where there is much unique and often highly emotional and transcendent of the normal 9-5 mind games, to draw from and to get involved with. If there were no malls, would people be so down on Christmas music? HO HO HO

I picked (painstakingly of course!) - in this very order: 1. Songs From the Wood 2. A Passion Play 3. Roots to Branches 4. Stand Up 5. Minstrel in the Gallery SFTW broke my Tull cherry, so that is indisputably my favorite. APP is when Ian finally finds his natural voice. I love TAAB but feel that he was still using that youthful, snotty, somewhat up-yoursy tone that you hear all over Aqualung (which by the way is my least fave save for Dot.Com and Catfish Rising - but that's for another overlong thread , and I believe he really came into his own for APP. Actually, the Chateau D'isaster tapes, but again, that's for another thread. Roots to Branches is a beautiful album with some of Ian's best music. I think it was the best studio release since SFTW. Stand Up was miles ahead of This Was, simply because the master took command, and it was brilliantly recorded; and Clive and Glen were dynamite. They faded into the background on Benefit, I thought, especially Clive! Then there was Aqualung, which even Ian has stated was not produced well. The songs were fabulous, but the recording on that LP is notably sub-excellent, though Steve Wilson did spiffy them up a bit. The fifth choice I dawdled and thunk over, rubbing my gray chin in conflict. I love WarChild, Heavy Horses, Stormwatch, and A....Crikey, and Broadsword! But I went with MITG finally. Maybe the decision wasn't really mine, and the Antareans forced their super duper cooperation rays through my aluminum foil hat?

hard to pick 5! It's easier to pick groupings and then 5 from a group. Example: 1968 - 1978 78-90 91-2015 Anyway...my TOP 4: Benefit, Stand-up, TAAB and Aqualung... Christmas album goes in a different catagory...and it's a GREAT album!

Decisions, Decisions. Yesterday my trusty 120gb ipod finally packed. I am one of those who need an ipod - I know. Panic averted my neice had an old one with 4gb. Last night was stressful I had to decide which albums to put on. Time again for the top 5 Tull (in fact I couldnt pick 5 so I settled for 7) Stand Up.Benefit,Aqualung,TAAB,APP,SFTW and Stormwatch made it (IA albums dont count)!
Also some Peter Green,Walter Trout,Blondie,Dire Straits,Marillion,New Order,Martin Barre.Jean Michel Jarre,Squeeze and the B52's. !!
OneEclecticDuck.
PS. No sarky comments.

Has anyone ever made a Christmas song you can listen to in the summer?! I don't know but it surely hasn't stopped Ian from performing his Christmas songs in the summer! 2000 Miles by Pretenders is a Christmas song without being a Christmas song. If you listen to it in summer, the subtly of it makes it come off as a regular song.

I can't believe I'm just seeing this poll for the first time. I also can't believe that Too Old to Rock and Roll, Too Young To Die scored so low! Come on! Crazed Institution is genius. Taxi Grab has some of Ian's best harmonica work. Pied Piper is delightful! John Evan's keyboard work is fantastic, and the bass on the album is some of Tull's best. In my opinion, this album absolutely KILLS This Was, Stand Up, Minstrel in the Gallery, A, Crest of a Knave, Catfish Rising, and a few others. Definitely in my top 5 albums list.
