Ginnungagap (Official Video) taken from the album ‘RökFlöte’ Animation created by Costin Chioreanu The track takes inspiration from the god Ymir, the proto-being, a primeval being, who was born from venom that dripped from the icy rivers called the Élivágar and lived in the grassless void of Ginnungagap. Lyrics: This first and elemental flesh - Both man and woman - falls awake From void and darkness, frost and flame - From sleeping Ymir, a world to make. The wordless voice, the scream, the howl, Pure essence fills new earth and sky; Ancestral form of myth and legend, Giants, gods to glorify. Father, mother to them all, The bleak betrayal comes to pass As daughters, sons, bad families, Are cut from stone to break like glass.
I dream of spaces, emptiness, Deserts golden, endless dome, Dome of blue with white clouds scudding, Folded origami, home. Home to all creation, vistas Of foreign lands. We conjure ghosts Of prebirth state, primal recall: The calm amongst the heavenly hosts.

Goo find tullabye The album’s track listing: 1. Voluspo 2. Ginnungagap 3. Allfather 4. The Feathered Consort 5. Hammer On Hammer 6. Wolf Unchained 7. The Perfect One 8. Trickster (And The Mistletoe) 9. Cornucopia 10. The Navigators 11. Guardian’s Watch 12. Ithavoll Said band leader Ian Anderson in a statement: “The title of this offering went through a little change or two along the way. I started with the idea of a predominantly instrumental album for rock flute – as in rock music. When the subject material of the album presented itself, I was drawn to the term Ragnarök from Norse mythology – their version of apocalyptic end times or Biblical Armageddon. The “final showdown” scenario is ubiquitous and inherent in Hinduism, Christianity and Islam, for example. Ragnarök translates as “destiny of the Gods”, the rök part meaning destiny, course, direction. With umlaut firmly in place, courtesy of the Germanic origins of Old Norse, Flute became Flöte in keeping with the spelling. With me so far? I just can’t miss the glorious opportunity for a good and legitimate umlaut.”

In it is a character called Jamie Anderton - a troubadour for the modern age. He had hits with That Friday Feeling, The Green Man, Hazel and Cornucopia. You can probably guess the songs that inspired those titles. Inspired, I repeat, not shamelessly stolen! Only now he's only gone and written a song called Cornucopia! Well, Ian, I got there first . . . I don't want financial compensation, but a private performance at a venue of my choosing and a guest list selected by me would I think cover the Intellectual Property Rights infringement

I’m digging the new track. I guess Ian doesn’t play any acoustic guitar on the record but Joe does. That’s how the credits show it. Although I advocated for more acoustic guitar I can groove on “rock flute” and if this song is an indication of what’s in store then I’m all in. Go Tull…we are so fortunate to have the hardest worker in rock.

If I'm not misremembering something, he hasn't played his guitar live for well over a year. And now, he's not even playing on record. At least, he's given Joe Parrish the chance to play the mandolin, to (hopefully) recapture some of that classic Tull sound.

I believe Ian still writes most of his music with the use of an acoustic guitar. I’m sure we’ll see more but not at this moment.

NEW TULL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well I'll be counting down to 21-4-23 because we organise our dates sensibly - not like some random maniac has been let loose with the calendar They released 3 tracks from The Zealot Gene before the album was released. I wonder if it'll be the same for this one?

He played stringed instruments on the 5 Zealot Gene songs he ended up doing alone, no? I bought a copy of the Zealot Gene CD that also included Demos of all the songs on the album. It sounds like many of the demos were generated by Ian alone using his acoustic guitar. I found these demos interesting. I guess they just add more instrumentation & extras on to these to build up to the full song. Sample below. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySq2DlZ8gmoPS Found these additional demos when looking for the Zealot Gene demo.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjS03gduKCkwww.youtube.com/watch?v=5bN5NtddrF0

Perhaps the issue regarding the lack of use in acoustic guitar or to be more precise, Ian's lack of usage on the up and coming new album is suggested by the title of the new album as well as the original idea Ian had in wanting to promote and focus on the flute as a rock instrument. The demos from the new album when they are released should be revealing as one would expect these demos to be just Ian playing a variety of instruments including the acoustic guitar.
Regarding the 'new single'...I think it is a great piece of music. The video is stunning and the album concept promises a terrific album of new Tull music. Time to get my order in.

Well done young Monkey . . . you know it makes sense I shall be ordering mine soon - although I'm not actually sure where we'll be living at the end of April as the house is going on the market in the next couple of weeks. I'm already carefully packing my Tull collection so I can give it the protection it deserves

I am looking forward to the new album . I am puzzled as to why Ian has apparently stopped playing the acoustic guitar, recently he hasn't played it at the live gigs.....this is very worrying IMHO because lots of Tull tunes need his guitar, the first passage of Thick as a Brick for one example, the guitar picking is lovely isn't it? Can't imagine a new album without Ian's guitar, but it looks like it, as he hasn't credited the guitar as an instrument he is playing on the album notes I've seen. A real pity...could it be a physical thing?

Hello! Here’s my wishful theory: Ian thinks he doesn’t have too many more albums in him. This one is obviously focused on the ”rock flute”, one main aspect of Tull. So my hope is that the next album in a similar way hones in on the other main aspect, namely the acoustic stuff! Given we know that Joe plays acoustic on RökFlöte, maybe we could even have dual acoustic guitars from Ian and Joe! That’s my hope. Now I don’t know whether there could be one or two albums left, but I would be seriously surprised if Ian didn’t make a stripped-back acoustic album and a sit-down tour of acoustic performances before he closes up shop.
Looking forward to RökFlöte!

I've been a Tull fan for more than 50 years and what really has turned me off for the last few records is the only consistent lead instrument is Ian's voice, spouting almost spoken lyrics that are not in any way catchy. Remember when Tull songs were so musical, exciting and featured long instrumental sections that rocked! Powerful and very moving guitar, organ and flute solos in most every song. Ian seems determined now to get some spoken message across with the band serving only as some sort of rhythm for his lyrics like a soundtrack in the background. I never fully understood what Ian was singing about and I've heard him say he deliberately wrote his lyrics to be open to interpretation, but they were beautiful and catchy, they touched the heart, now I really don't care what he's going on about. I too hope the Rokflot will be more back to form but from the snippets I've heard it's just more of the same. Ian Anderson has created the best music I've heard in my life for half a century and I am extremely grateful to him but I just can't pretend to much enjoy what he's been putting out for years, especially since Martin left.
