Those questions that you missed asking on the Q&A's or ones you're just dying to know.

Here's a question I've been thinking of.....
Since reading a recent interview about the TAAB/TAAB2 tour/release, you stated that you, "didn't give give **** about those that may not like it...". So, how is that different than in the past when you would state the opposite - "that you were more interested in the less than favorable reasons someone didn't like some new music...."
So why then, should I, "give a ****", after 40 years of discriminating listening if you don't?

I would suspect that he really does care and he was stung by the slagging he received from the whole martin barre thing.

Well that's certainly a possibility - but he had to see that one coming - and I for one believe he had to. Sounds like one of those moments when his guard was down and his notorius nasty demeanour slipped through. Either way - I feel the casual idea/release of TAAB2 comes through in the final result. Any way, it seems like a good question to ask - since it started with his own words. There have been some really valid 'negative' and 'constructive' reviews - many of which I agree with - I can't for the life of me think of a valid reason to not want to know what they are.
Maybe another question would be; 'You have been quoted recently as saying you created TAAB - but on the extra tracks of TAAB from some years ago you are recorded along with MB and JHH where it seems there was more of a collaborative effort.'

F**k Me if this was a casual idea/release god only knows what he would come out with if he was serious!!! ( Can I mention god when replying ? ) The show, the packaging, the website, the video and the quality of the musicianship how can you justify calling it casual- strange

...and his notorius nasty demeanour ....' I am genuinely interested in what you mean by that not in a sparring way by any means it's just that I think that part of his personality is a finely tuned dry humour ok he's probably got grumpier over the years I find it's something that happens to men in general the older they get - the polar opposite, in fact of what happens to women - JOKE!! I'm not being sexist - honest !! I am curious as to what you mean about nasty?

To answer both questions about my question(s) and observation/comment; I have had some professional interactions with JT/IA and mostly, they have been mostly fine - I did have the chance to experience one of his 'finer' moments. Which by the way, were not born of my action. I had been told for that possibility - in a professional/business sense. He has had a huge responsibility with the JT business side. But his comment about listeners not liking it was the first time I have ever heard him comment in sucg a way. His reputation for a certain edginess is to be expected to a point.
Then to the 'casual nature' of TAAB2; remember it was not something he was considering until 'industry friends' moved the idea along. Dressing up the idea with a web-site for the times, and becoming involved in the idea as he very most likely is - up to his elbows - does not mean it consists of an idea that would have been done if left alone. Yes, I happen to consider it, based on the very injection of A Change of Horses to the idea; since ACOH wasn't written for TAAB2 in the beginning, as making TAAB2 as being more casual. As in, 'that's a nice song, I can squeeze it in here' type of thing. So that's a couple of reasons, and he can do what he wants - after all 'he was responsible for TAAB', ah no, if we are to believe pre-TAAB2 history. I've said elsewhere that the 'musicianship' while being adequate is NOT up to JT standards as in TAAB for example. Yes, it's not a JT album and I did not go into it expecting it to be - but it is named TAAB2 after all, and I won't be any less discriminating because it's the first 'new music' out of IA's head to make it to disk for years - it still has to 'have some snap'.
So when IA say's he doesn't give a '****', he is kind of playing fire with discriminating listeners that gave him the ride he still enjoys - whether they like TAAB2 or not. Maybe someone else can ask him if he forgot that when he said it.

IA has said on a number of occasions " i am not the easiest fellow to get along with - being a bit of a bugger sometimes in fact." Peter John Vettese said in the recent dvd that at times he though IA was a bit of a "twat". maybe he is and is not the type of person who will suffer fools gladly. But i dont care!! i love the mans music and thats all that should matter!

Hey, I never said I don't love IA's talent and music - Been 40 plus years for me and I've always taken the good with the bad - and for me there really has only been a few wah? ? song-wise during that time. But, he is entitled to lay an egg - for my ears at least - and while TAAB2 isn't bad, it may be as close to an egg he'll deliver. That's okay - There have been plenty of creative geniuses that have had 'their moments' - and being in the public eye makes those moments of 'contrast' quite visible. I just think it's a bit of a bad idea to 'bite the hand that feeds'.

Ian
Was "four hundred thousand hours" a number that fitted the lyrics at the time or is there more to it?

Hey, Bunny, you shorted him 360,000 hours...and 400,000 is just over 45 years...just about halfway between TAAB release and Gerald's purported current age, 50 and the years mentioned in the song since he left home.

It may be casual in your mind but even so there can be no denying that it has some snap. It is a great recording that for the most part has been getting rave reviews and justifiably so. TAAB 2 may not be as good as TAAB 1 but it is a great follow up from an artist that under any name keeps on producing a kind of music that only he can come up with. Ian is why TAAB 2 sounds like JT and is the only one with the capabilities to do so. Martin is a great second fiddle but Ian is the force behind all of the music and always was.

Things change fast in emergency psychiatric care...yesterday it was Ray who required hospitalization...but he recovered well, as witnessed by the review on the Coolalbum blog...Today -rabbit is hearing those voices again and I suspect she is off her meds....well, once we get everyone hospitalized we will at least be able to brag about being the most 'commited' Tull fan site.

First sign of mental illness? Lack of insight re: mental illness ! People in the emergency room that say they need a few days in the bin get kicked to the curb, people who say they're fine get admitted right away!

" Well, I've read reveiws and I don't let them influence me either way. For my ears and I've said this before - it's a good (3 out of 5) IA SOLO disk. There are, for me a couple of songs that come across where I actually think IA is emotionally involved with the songs - and they are the ones I like as 4 to 5ish. To me it's no better than his RD solo. Respectfully, TAAB2 is not as good as TAAB - there's no 'may not be' at all. I hear what I hear and I'm not worried about calling it that way. TAAB2 sounds like an electrfied IA SOLO effort not JT - copying a few riffs/meoldies and having the 'band' play to sound like JT is not JT. How did MB come into your comment any way? Second fiddle??? I don't think it much of stretch to hear the differences w/o MB - too, I don't think his contributions over the years can be minimized by (again, respectfully) 'second fiddle' comments.

extract from Maddog's post re Rolling Stone interview 1993
Do you intend to carry Jethro Tull deep into the next millennium?
I don’t think so, no. Whatever Jethro Tull is, it will just respond from time to time to what the interest is from the fans, be they old or new. I remember seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968 and thinking, “God, I wonder where we’ll be in 2001?” and then, in the next breath, “But that’s so far away it’s not even worth considering.” Now, it’s around the corner. In a strange way, ’68 having been the year we started, 2001 might be a good time for Jethro Tull to play its last concert. You’ve got time for Jethro Tull to play its last concert. You’ve got every chance of playing until you’re as old as Muddy Waters was--it’s just those of us who, perhaps unwisely, chose a more athletic way of performing music who are really in for a rough final few years.
Question Ian are you on supplements and what are they ?

I think we need to give Shona a good share of the credit...something tells me she has been keeping him physicaly and mentally healthy for a long time...She looks and talks like she knows what she's doing and doesn't take a lot of back talk.
