For one I enjoy seeing these past theaters and their settings it's a bit like having been along on the tour to states or even countries I've always been curious about. You can see how flat or hilly the land is, the possibly typical clarity of the sky/air on the day the picture was taken, and how wisely the buildings and streets are laid out (or not which usually depends on the cities age). And also simultaneously imagine the bands first impression on arrival - everything from "Hey there is this stuff called paint and you put it on the walls" or "Better keep the bass down a little so nothing falls on us" to "Wow now this is a theater" or "Look at the size of those bolted beams angling outwards - the windows and the perfect sidewalks" "Wow". However, most of us have been in a number of halls and know full well the inside of an old one may be out and out palatial. Just like our early librarians intoned about books and covers.. OK well, enough ogling - time to get back on the bus! I find the architecture of some of the venues fascinating, from the "over the top" gaudiness of some which escaped the modernisation of the cities and towns and thus were preserved for future generations, to the some of the modern concrete blocks erected recently which in some cases have no architectural merit at all. And then there are some which no longer exist and in at least one case I came across, had been returned to park land, to the very early venues which were in the top rooms of pubs, corrugated huts also used by the local scout troop, and the workingmen's clubs which abound in Britain.
