I always thought it would be nice if Ian invited "name" artists to be part of his solo stuff.
Here's two that come to mind:
Mark Knopfler
I think Ian sounded pretty good back in the Crest days, and no offense to Martin but why not have a go with the guy who made that sound famous.
I also think Ian's vocals would benefit from Mark's style.
Alanis Morisette
Ian probably couldn't hang with her vocally these days, but I've always thought the two would work very well together.

Call me a stick in the mud...but I would personally like to see Ian and Martin team up with John Evans, Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond, and Barriemore Barlow...three very under rated musicians who at one point were a driving force in the musical foundation of Tull in they hay day.

Richard Thompson and Ian...or is that too many chiefs and not enough indigineous peoples. ( here in politically correct SF we even call good fall weather 'native american summer')

Good call! Or maybe even Teddy Thompson, Richards son. I saw him play at the recent Rogues Gallery show at the Barbican last month and he was excellent, a bit like a young Paul Rogers singing and very much like his Dad on guitar.

Maybe in a duo with Maddy Prior possibly w guest appearances by any of the violin girls, or Ric, maybe with Maart or RT on a few tracks, maybe Simon Nicol on at least one, since he is the only Fairport member of the past 25 years who has not recorded with Ian. Maybe he would say he would like to keep it that way. Maybe a one off track w Pat Metheny.

An interesting collaboration would be with Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree. A truly great musical mind there.

I would like to see Ian team up with Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens). There music is similar - Acoustic style. Plus Ian's singing style in the late 70's (SFTW era) was quite similar to cat stevens. Basically id love to hear some of Yusuf's Music with Ian playing flute in the background.

Steven Wilson or Yusuf Islam would both be great working with Ian, maybe he should do a collaborations album sometime in the future.

In the 1970's I remember an exact quote from Ian in an interview. Exact quote, verbatim:
"I wouldn't feel comfortable writing simple, idiotic, Cat Stevens' type lyrics!"
If anyone could find it, that'd be great! I think it was either in Circus, Creem or R. Stone

I second the Richard Thompson and Maddy Prior suggestions.
I think it would be amazing if Ian recorded or did some shows with John Renbourn from Pentangle, they both have a very lilting and beautiful acoustic sounds, and Renbourn's albums almost always have flute in them.

Now that the Xmas festive gigs are getting well established hows about Al Stewart as a guest? In a lot of ways this would have been more credible than Marc Almond however I will reserve judgement till the event. Al Stewart, damn fine musician, folk-rock, is quite the troubadour and story teller song writer. still touring and performing well; www.alstewart.com/Only ever appeared once with Tull* in 1968 National Jazz&Blues Festival, Sunbury i50.images obliterated by tinypic/259xrbn.jpg[/IMG] *correct me if I'm wrong

I'd love to see Ian working with Michael Akerfeldt from Opeth. Ian & Michael are both true musical geniuses & with a mutual friend in Steven Wilson who knows, it could happen! Also, how about Joe Bonamassa? They've both guested at each other's concerts & JB is a big Tull fan....

Don't know much about Opeth but I could see IA working with Mr Bonamassa if the hard rock album that IA has talked about comes to fruition. Another point about JB is that he is a dab hand at writing and playing acoustic material so the other idea mentioned by IA of a totally acoustic album might also interest JB.
