I love the advice on how to get to the venue in York. Arriving by rail, we recommend getting a taxi from the station. The cabbies are very friendly unless you remind them that under an ancient local bylaw it is still legal to relieve yourself against their rear offside wheel - as long as they have a bale of hay in the boot.Keep flying onewhiteduck.

It's a bit Home counties based is it not? Is York the furthest North they dare go?

Latest "snippets" from www.martinbarre.comJULY 18th.
The Munich shows were amazing; we all had a great time playing to a wonderful audience!
Many thanks to all at the Bayerischerhof Hotel and to my friends in Germany.
The Excalibur show played to 7000 people in Brittany,France.
It was a 4 hour show and the product of a huge effort from everyone concerned.
The musicians ( including the Fairports ), the orchestra, dancers and the costume and make-up team were all totally incredible and made the show a massive success.
Thanks to Alan Simon and his team. The response from the UK shows has been fantastic . . . . . . . . we are playing Weyfest UK on the 1st. September and the Looe festival on the 22nd. September.
Richard Beesley will play sax/clarinet/flute on both shows and Dan Crisp will be on vocals at the Looe show.

In an anorak way I can see three acts that Martin would have been on the same bill as before. More serious anoraks might see more

Martin isn't doing that gig

The name Jackie Lynton struck a note and his link to Martin however he didn't play in Savoy Brown till 1972 and the only time SB appeared with Tull was pre Martin at the Marquee in 1968 when the young band - Tull - supported them. I just have to say how amazing the information world is now with all this at our fingertips - 30 years ago we would have been sitting scratching our heads in the pub and as the drink flowed no doubt falling out over it

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees and we're going on tour Posted: 08/09/2012 01:00:00 AM PDT www.presstelegram.com/lifestyle/ci_21264046/steve-smith-van-halen-tour-news-pasadena-popsWEYFEST U.K. SETS PROG-ROCK DREAM LINE-UP The Weyfest Music Festival is set for Aug. 31-Sept. 2 in Farnham, Surrey, a few miles southwest of London. The fest is a progressive rock dream, features a line-up that doesn't often make it to our shores, including 10 cc, Asia, former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett, prog-rock and folk fusion vets Curved Air, and former Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre and his band New Day "performing the music of Jethro Tull." Other performers include long-lasting Irish folkies Tir Na Nog and English pop duo Go West, who are celebrating their 30 th anniversary

As Martin is currently touring the UK with a number of dates such as York tonight and Sale tomorrow, I do hope that at least some of the members of this forum do make the effort to go along and see him. Whatever the merits of the band members Martin has assembled in his current line up, he remains a brilliant guitarist who, in my view at least, has almost as much importance as Ian in giving Jethro Tull such a unique sound.
As I am pretty hopeless at understanding the finer points of IT, I will send Graham M some pics asap that I took at this year's Weyfest of Martin and his band - might even send you some pics of Anna Phoebe as well Graham..
Patrick.

Saw Martin & band on Sunday at the Bath gig, they were great. A nice varied set list including a good sprinkling of Tull songs well sung by Dan Crisp. The band were tight and Martin's playing was superb. The drummer was George Lindsay depping for Geoff Dunn and he played particularly well nailing " Minstrel" and "A Passion Play" excerpt with ease considering this was his first gig and he's only 23! A couple of nice surprises were "White Innocence" and "Still loving you tonight" the latter performed by Dan & Martin as a duo only on accoustic & electric guitar. I haven't seen Martin look so relaxed & happy for years, truly a great gig. Aqualung was not played so that was a bonus! I'd strongly recommend checking this tour out, great musicianship & an eclectic set list.

Interesting change in the set list vanini from when I saw them last April in Tavistock which can't be a bad thing. Thanks for the review.

From Martin's web site:
The first show in Bath was a great success and we are now driving north to York to continue the rest of the UK tour.
We have added five new songs into the set from the earlier shows, including a couple of rare Tull tracks.
In between rehersals, Pat and myself performed at the Exeter guitar show, put on by
Mansons Guitar Shop.
We all look forward to seeing you at the UK shows.
Be interested in seeing a full set list in due course and comparing it with the earlier one.
