It's symbolic of something- not sure what? songs/music/voices of the past sounding clearer and reinvigorated.

That looks fantastic - great pics Seeing the inner sleeve as pages in a book looks great. Brings back the memories of the first encounter of a Tull album

That looks fantastic - great pics Seeing the inner sleeve as pages in a book looks great. Brings back the memories of the first encounter of a Tull album The whole thing is superb and can only go up in price over the next few years. If anyone bought the two cd version, it would be interesting to see what was put in the booklet and whether it duplicated the large book at all. It's going to take a few days to listen to it all but what a way to celebrate Aqualung. Puts all the other versions issued over the years to shame.

Mine arrived yesterday from play.com - sadly it's still in its box, not allowed to open it until my birthday next Monday - can't wait!
Thanks for posting the pics Maddogfagin, looks terrific.I don't have surround sound, maybe I'll have to invest now - reminds me of when Slipstream came out waybackwhen, had to get a video player (and the video was expensive enough in those days!).
Only 5 days to go....

A couple of reviews:
"Here then at last is the all-singing, all dancing, impossibly completist and sumptuous version comprising LP, double CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, plus a book by CR's own Dom Lawson. It sounds fantastic, the acoustic tracks in particular benefiting from a crisp and shiny sense of space and immediacy. Aqualung's position in the pantheon of classic rock albums is assured."
Classic Rock - November 2011 - 8/10
I won't go into detailed warblings about each track, much has been written over the years.
After many remastering attempts over the years, from dubious sourced tapes. Steve Hoffman came close, with his Ian Anderson sourced master tape, and the DCC 1997 issue.
This issue has, at last, been compiled from the original 16 and 8 track tapes, analogue to digital multi track transfer by Abbey Road, then passed on to Steven Wilson for expert remastering. Keeping as close as possible to the original mix he has done an excellent job of bringing out a lot of previously hidden detail whilst managing to remove a lot of the previous issues/tape flaws.
If you have loved this album, but always been disappointed with the quality of previous issues, then this release is for you.
As a bonus the different versions on disc 2 are worth having, notibly the 9+ minute version of "My God" and early versions of "Wond'ring Aloud"
Thank you to EMI and Steve Wilson for at last giving us the album we Jethro Tull fans have long been hoping for.

Good to see the reviews highly favourable for the album I used to complain about because I had to buy new copies of the vinyl all the time (putting quarters on the needle arm ring a bell anyone?).
I disagree with Ian Anderson; I definitely don't want new old Tull, I prefer to see creative artists in the creative process. Forget the back catalogue, change the band name for new songs and eternity let the specifics arrive as they might.

Finally FINALLY got my hands on the Aqualung 2011 two CD version. Rain prevented me from getting it on the way home from work yesterday so i got it at lunch break today and had time to listen to: Up the Pool short version, wondering aloud/again and alternate wind up.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful...tears came to my eyes at the sweet sound of Ian's voice and the depth and sincerity that oozes out of those three songs, can't wait to hear more. i always thought of peak Tull being brick thru Minstrel but what i heard today is equal if not even better. Oh my f**kin' God....the extra disc is a goldmine....It will be awhile before i get to the original songs on disc one.

You like it then ;D You've sumed it up admirably Bernie - I keep going back to My God and Up The Pool (early versions) and like you, will get a chance to listen via headphones this weekend. Tull party anyone?

Got 2 cd version last week, much as id love it cant afford £96 for full version, never mind. It sounds feckin fab full blast in the car system. Cant really hear difference in 'Stereo MIX' more of a 'remastered remastered' to my worn out lugs. Still great stuff a classic album,Wondering Again is a masterpiece. I challenge Ian to come up with an album with simple dovetailed songs like these fine pieces Nursie,Cheap Day Return ,Wondering Aloud,Just Trying to be. Totally understand hes 'Moved on Along' but hey Ian these songs are timeless. Martin Barres guitar tone on 'My God' thru the Fender super 60 ,AWESOME.

Listened to it carefully over the weekend, outstanding...Wond'ring Again, fantastic, I've always loved that side of the LITP. I was thrilled when IA played it live, so now we have had Life is a Long Song live....just need to get him to play Dr. Bogenbroom live too and I'll die a happy man. :-)

Or the opposite Ms Rabbit....between 20 year box and Nightcap...the almighty Play has already been thoroughly revisited.....but I would be nice to have even more verses and version as well as the remix upgrades...

I did decide not to buy any of these releases. I did.
Because I had the vinyl edition and three different CD editions of Aqualung.
Now, I also have the box-set.
I found it at a record store in Oslo, three minutes walk from my place of work, in a building that also houses a concert hall, where I have seen Jethro Tull once. Then, who could resist...?? Not a trainspotter.
It's still sealed. I will open it in the weekend, when I am relaxed.

The 5.1 on Blu-ray & DVD is a terrific mix. However, there are tiny glitches on the 5.1 in the front left/right speakers. The 5.1 mix is one for the ages. Too bad, so sad. Don't be put off, just in case these are not fixed. There are three audible glitches on all 5.1mixes DVD & Blu-ray. They make a dog's ears perk up. Ouch! *On the Blu-ray original stereo mix - My God suffers from terrible tearing sounds. Steven Wilson comments: www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=267548&page=12www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showpost.php?p=7133307&postcount=237Cross-Eyed Mary glitch - On ALL of the 5.1 mix tracks of "Cross-Eyed Mary at about 1:18 in there is an audible "tick" sound in the left front channel...."if he could take it from the money (tick) man"....... this includes the DVD & Blu-ray. My God glitch - 6:38 into My God. About the 27:45 mark. This one is the toughest to hear because it blends in well. Wind Up glitch - I do not like reporting this. 5.1, I believe there is another glitch at 41:27 on the Blu-ray during Wind Up. Front channels. (At about 41:24 on the DVD strangely enough). The glitch is at about 3:57 into the track, and looks quite similar to the Cross Eyed Mary glitch: Thank you to MarkN for the graphs.
