Wow! too
Coincidentally, at that Hamilton show that I mentioned today on the Dot Com thread, Ian threatened (kidding of course) to play the whole Brick. I was the one that yelled out to go for it.
Coincidence hmmm, seeing a lot of that.

Well that'll be the big surprise then ;D Now wait a minute the old cynic in me is thinking do I really want to hear TAAB done now or is it best left in the memory? ?

Of course when I say Ian threatened to play the whole Brick, he mentioned (roughly) that we would not want to sit through the whole thing today (2000). Something about weak bladders of the older crowd.

Old news...this can't be the surprise.

I agree...the TAAB live rumblings/rumors have been going around for awhile...I really think anything worthy of the big build-up and countdown on the website will indeed be a surprise of some sort...we'll find out soon. I think 'Tull-central', form Ian on down, can keep a secret when they mean it.

I've noticed some dates that mention Ian Anderson rather than Jethro Tull. I first thought surely we are not having another Ian Anderson tour of the UK instead of a Jethro Tull tour. However looking at the size of the venues it must be a Jethro Tull tour. I hope I'm right !!

MUST be Barre for me! I don't want a 'sub' - however good. My attendance will hang on this - and that's that. (Jings! I hope I don't sound in a bad mood!)

I've been to 70 odd Tull shows but I wont be going under any banner if Martin is not there. Hope they do the 40th of APP in 2013! I'd sell my pond for that.

My two sons and I won't be going if the shows are without Martin Barre and I know many others who feel the same way. It must be sold under a Jethro Tull tour banner I mean IA solo tours struggle to sell out theatres between 750 to 1,000 but when it's a Jethro Tull gig it usually sells out to much larger venues.

This from Harrogate: Starting April 2012, Ian Anderson will undertake a series of tours commemorating the 40th anniversary of his Jethro Tull album Thick As A Brick. The No 1 Billboard Chart-topping Thick As A Brick album from 1972 will be played in its entirety, for the first time since its original tour. There will of course be some of the Jethro Tull hits thrown in for good measure. The Thick As A Brick album will be performed as per the original recording, with a few surreal and humorous theatrical interjections. This high production tour will include special guests alongside Ian's band and incorporate video projection in the show. www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk/page.aspx?parent=18aadf8c-40a3-46f7-bf6c-e960d786908e&showIdentifier=6b42976f-fbc9-4be3-b446-a12bc9db2d08

Sounds like plain English for Ian solo plus guests...not Jethro Tull

Do any of the notices say special guests? Could it be as someone suggested the original line up hence not billed as Jethro Tull?

There's some sense of high spirits in the announcement. That's what those Tullies always needed: structure.

So no memoirs/reunions for TAAB/new album(s)/retirements/etc., just what we already knew about. Shame - I would have thought that as the news about the Aqualung box set had been common knowledge weeks ago, courtesy of TullCentral and the internet, and the first three TAAB dates had been announced by Ticketmaster last week, IA's advisors would have added something extra to "the great surprise". Oh well, not to be.
TAAB without Martin ? Well it won't be the genuine article but if it's Flo on guitar he'll put 100% into his performance. Yes I'd love to see Jethro Tull on the road rather than the IA Band but "beggers can't be choosers" and if that's what the headmaster has decided then so be it.
Onwards and upwards - can't for the life of me see IA and the official site going through all this again though. It's rather turned out to be a bit of a let down.

i reckon he ll struggle to fill some auditoria with the TAAB tour. newcastle city hall being one of them. his voice as we all know has been shot for years. i think i may give this one a miss. as for the aqualung remix just how much more can emi squeeze out of it and at £95 a throw!!!!! i think i ll pass on this as well. overall a huge disappointment.

There's still the special guests to taunt and surprise us leading up to it. Come on we all know even if he was standing in a jesters costume the hairs will still go up at the back of the neck hearing it all again " The poet and the painter casting shadows on the water as the sun plays on the infantry returning from the sea"
So what happened to the whisperings of a new album? He's a wily old bugger ;D ;D dropping his hints but how could he ever squeeze that in between all these tours?
When it comes down to it, I suppose, do you want to hear TAAB performed by Ian Anderson forty years down the line and when you think back would you honestly have expected it?

I want to her TAAB live but as Tull not as a anything else. ' Ian Anderson plays Jethro Tull's TAAB' sounds like a f**king tribute band - Sorry. Pissed off. If Martin/Doane won't do it don't bother.
Have a great Bank Holiday

I believe it all comes down to IA/Calliandra Productions having a p1ss poor publicity machine. A great deal could have been made of "the surprise" - there must be enough mixing desk recordings to include at least a couple of the newer songs as mp3 downloads and, I reckon this is relevant, a statement as to the availability and involvement of Martin Barre in any future Tull/IA Band set-up and series of concerts.
I'm off to play Warchild & Heavy Horses.

I wish Martin would update his bloody website with any news of what he is up to. Lets face it if he wont feature on TAAB 2012 tour, what is he doing with himself these? Retirement?

Just seen this from Events24: www.ents24.com/web/offers.html?id=804which lists the band members..........no Martin or Doanne Perry so its yet another Ian Anderson Solo Tour with a bunch of session guys. Really annoyed. No Martin so don't expect me to go to any of the concerts. God bless you Martin

Just got back from holiday were I didn't go near a computer so, when I log on and see TAAB doing the rounds next year my first reaction was Wow! Great! Then when it sunk in that it wasn't going to be Jethro Tull I'm left a little bemused as to how it's going to work with Ian and 'who else'? But, just like nonrabbit says-- "When it comes down to it, I suppose, do you want to hear TAAB performed by Ian Anderson forty years down the line and when you think back would you honestly have expected it?" So, I for one WILL be going to at least one concert.

Well he's appearing in April at the Theatre Royal Glasgow which has a much bigger stage that down the road at the Pavilion.
numbers again - 33 years since the Water's Edge was performed on the very same stage (wonder if his brother will be there)
