Maybe we should do a poll - Tull's funniest song! JHH's rendition of "How much is that doggie in the window" must be in with a chance, even if it wasn't written by Mr A.

'Hunting Girl' +1.
With an honourable mention in dispatches for 'Last Man at the Party'.

As noted in parallel thread..I think Pig-me and the whore is comic wordplay brilliance.

And as long as I am correcting albums during my 10 hour hospital shift,....I think, despite 'funniness' Kissing Willie could easily be sacrificed to allow the far superior Hardliner' a place on Rock Island....it fits in better and is a better song.

Somewhere I have a promo cassette copy of Rock Island where Hardliner is part of the running order so it was considered for the finished album but dropped at the last minute. I'll have a look for it when I eventually get home.

Personally I never liked sound of the drums on this album. A hard-hitting 80's Boom bap production. Not my cup of tea.

T'was the sound of the 80s and with the benefit of hindsight the drums could be fixed for today's ears but my fear is that as each generation listens to Tull and asks for change that eventually the overall sound will be radically different to what was originally created. Me, I love the album.

I love Rock Island prettty much, too. It's just about the drums really. Interestingly, I don’t have that same 'problem' at all when it comes to the Crest Of A Knave album. But, on the COAK it's Gerry Conway who plays most of the drums & percussions (songs 3, 4, 6 and 8). Doane Perry plays only on the Farm on the Freeway and The Waking Edge. I guess it's just that I an not a big fan of Doane Perry's sound on the Rock Island.

Let’s hope Wilson gets to this album. Layer Ian’s voice to make him sound 40 instead of 80 lol. Take out the drum reverb and tone the synths. Should sound pretty cool:)

"Kissing Willie" is a bit embarrassing , but the rest flows nicely. Its atmospheric and creates a mood which sometimes the remixes don't quite preserve.

A remix will still have that atmosphere. Will just sound better. Should be a few bonus tracks too

I like this album a lot. My favourite track is 'Another Christmas Song'. I don't understand why this is not played more often on UK radio at Christmas time. A lovely song that reminds me so much of my late Father. (It was his favourite Christmas song). An album I have a lot of time for!

If they are going to play Greg Lake's Father Christmas, Kink's Father Christmas, Winwood's Christmas Is Now Drawing Near at Hand and a host of other awesome Christmas songs over and over again, why can't they give Ian's greats: Solstice Bells, Christmas Song, Another Christmas Song one play? Heck, I've even heard the 10 minute version of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Power of Love on the radio at Christmastime. Father, forgive the disc jockeys for they know not what they do.

Just had a listen to this album. What a great album it is. The only thing i would change is the "NO!" after the Do you forgive me. I think it sounds a bit corny. Maybe no answer or a musical one would have been better. But this is an outstanding issue. A good next effort after Crest. Every song is memorable and tuneful with great Martin riffs. I'm surprised it isnt rated higher. But all Tull albums are great
