Hello all, As has been reported elsewhere and revealed by Ian Anderson in a recent interview, EMI are preparing a special edition release of Jethro Tull's 1971 classic album 'Aqualung'. They are looking for good quality photos of the very brief Aqualung line-up (Ian, Martin Barre, John Evan, Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond and Clive Bunker). These seem to be as rare as hen's teeth so can anyone help here? Colour photos preferrably. To start the ball rolling there is one shot in the 'Living In The Past' double LP inner gatefold and another from a German single picture sleeve, both in colour. Also a third has appeared from an edition of 'Disc & Music Echo' magazine from 20th March 1971 (see below) Can anyone add to these? They would also need the name of the photographer or the copyright owner to be able to use them. There are also a range of photos from a session on 19th February 1971 at the Dorchester Hotel, London showing a gold disc presentation from the actress Julie Ege but all that have come to light so far have been in black & white. Does anyone know of any colour shots from this session?

Hi Hollowmoor Haven't seen that one before - love the contrast of Ian's jacket and the background I have seen a couple but I'd have to dig deep again. If anyone knows of any do you want them to post the link on the Forum page or by PM? Cheers nonrabbit

Hi nonrabbit,
Post them here absolutely! Let's see what we can dig up. But if you have anything scanned at a high resolution then please PM me.
Cheers.

Good point; Jeffrey in, Clive not yet out was a very finite window ( how many tours?) I know barrie's first or second gig, the infamous red rocks riot, took place during the American Aqualung tour so it is not surprising that documentation of the line-up listed on the aqualung LP are rare.

These are great, rare pictures....and show, by looks and subtle expression, how little time it took Jeffrey HH to get up to speed as a member of Tull....it's clear he has been ''one of them' from day one. Well...the last picture shows possible over-identification with Zappa

Many years ago I photoshopped the German Hymn/Loco single and tried to remove the letters. The result is quite ok, I think, even if today I would succeed better! Another one from that period, which I like, from the german teenmagazine Bravo, which I retouched. Attachments:

Hello all, Fantastic stuff turning up here, good effort everyone ;-))
Now comes the tricky task of finding where these pictures come from, who the photographer was or who holds the copyright.
10cars: can you let us know what issue number or publication date is on the Bravo magazine article? This magazine is still being published so these pics may be easily traceable. Can you also give any information about where the black and white shots have come from?

Here's another one: taken from the German magazine "Good Times" No.6/2007 (Dec./Jan.2007-08, Issue 91, page 10), photographer Unfried, it says Hamburg 71, seems to be the same session as the Hymn single. There also exists a little feature from Berlin TV of Tull in Hamburg Jan.71 (little bit of Nothing Is Easy live and Tull making fun in hotel and restaurant) Okay the sources of the other ones: The Bravo is issue 13/1971 (22 March) photographer W. Heilemann. The "string trio-opera singer" photo is the doublepage title for this story (original b/w and with text , I retouched it) and the one with John Evan in the middle with white car shirt is on the last page of this feature. The "Thumbs up photo" is from a german TV magazine "Hör zu" from 1971. No more information, I'm afraid. The next one is from the same session as Hymn single/Good Times mag and is taken from a book by German author Raoul Hoffman "Zwischen Galaxis & Underground" Nov. 1971 then ISBN 3-423-00790-7. photocredit for Ariola/Phonogram (then German record company for Chrysalis). Hollowmoor: The colour photo you attached (from the "Gold Disc" session) is also printed in yery good quality in the official "The Best Of Jethro Tull - The Anniversary Collection" songbook, Wise publications, 1993, ISBN 0-7119-3620-X, Photos London Features International Hope this may help and I will get my free copy of the album! ;D

First time I saw some of these was in Circus magazine -- www.tullpress.com/capr72.htmLike most of the pictures on TullPress .. which seem to crop up on the web a lot! .. there's usually a lot of Photoshop work, to cut out obtrusive text, centre-page creases, and general fiddling about to improve on what were usually poor quality reproductions.
