Black Sunday shows up on a lot of Tull fanatic's top ten lists.
The dog's doo dahs of a Tull song.
Tomorrow is the one day I would change for a Monday With freezing rains melting and no trains running And sad eyes passing in windows flimsy And my seat rocking from legs not quite matching, Got passport, credit cards, a plane that I'm catching Black Sunday falls one day too soon.
The taxi that takes me will be moving too quickly My suitcases simply too full for the closing Of pants, shirts and kisses all packed in a hurry, Two best-selling paper backs chosen at random No sign of sales-persons to whom I might hand them. Black Sunday falls one day too soon.
And down at the airport are probably waiting A few thousand passengers, overbooked seating Time long suspended in transit-lounge traumas Connections broken and Special Branch waiting Conspicuously standing in holiday clothing. Black Sunday falls one day too soon.
Pick up my feet and kick off my lethargy, Down to the gate with the old mood upon me, Get out and chase the small immortality Born in the minute of my next returning Impatient feet tapping and cigarette burning. Homecoming one day too soon.
And back at the house there's a grey sky a-tumbling, Milk bottles piling on door steps a-crumbling, Curtains all drawn and cold water plumbing Notepaper scribbles I read unbelieving Saying how sorry, how sad was the leaving one day too soon.
Tomorrow is the one day I would change for a Monday With freezing rains melting and no trains running And sad eyes passing in windows flimsy And my seat rocking from legs not quite matching, Got passport, credit cards, a plane that I'm catching Black Sunday falls one day too soon.
Fylingdale Flyer - Jethro Tull (1980) HQ FLAC Remaster HD Video 9,928 views MetalGuruMessiah Published on Jul 29, 2015
Through clear skies tracking lightly from far down the line No fanfare, just a blip on the screen No quick conclusions, now everything will be fine Short circuit glitch and not what it seems
Fylingdale flyer, you're only half way there Green screen liar for a second or so we were running scared
On late shift, feeling drowsy eyes glued to the display Dead cert alert, lit match to the straw One last quick game of bowls, we can still win the day Fail safe forget the things that you saw
Fylingdale flyer, you're only half way there Green screen liar for a second or so we were running scared
They checked the systems through and they read a okay Some tiny fuse has probably blown Sit back, relax and soon it will just go away Keep your hands off that red telephone
Fylingdale flyer, you're only half way there Green screen liar for a second or so we were running scared

Will there be a bookform deluxe edition of "A" ? I Hope so!
Too soon for rumours about it?
Has Steven Wilson indicated if he intends to remix "A" ? I'll be honest, I think "A" is one of Tull's weaker albums, but it does include a couple strong songs. The band did rebound nicely with their next effort(Broadsword), but this was a difficult period of transition for the band as they changed band members and musical styles. I do think this album, and especially "Under wraps" could benefit from a more dramatic remix that could reduce the keyboards and possibly re-record some drums for Under Wraps.

With a new album being recorded (and will need promotion too) and new guitarist at the core of the band, starting February 2020 or whatever, I can't see that the quite weak "A" album (I agree with your comments) warrants attention now. Maybe skip past it and give Broadsword and Under Wraps their due remix and upgrade when the time is suitable, or re-record the Under Wraps drums and repackage it as a new/old Tull project that can be promoted a little. Under Wraps really impressed me. Broadsword of course earned big sales numbers for a reason.
'A' is one of my favourite Tull albums, and one of the very few that I'd still happily listen to all the way through.
Eddie Jobson's 4-second intro to 'Crossfire' is more interesting to me, musically, than the whole of the Stormwatch album, have to say, which is one I'd never listen to again.
Mark Craney's drumming on the album I prefer over anything Perry did, with a great sound to boot, and I think it's Dave Pegg's finest album for his playing: melodic & memorable, in a way he never achieved again on subsequent albums.
'Working John, Working Joe' is a real snooze-fest, and the only one I'd skip. I guess it's telling that it was a 1976-77 reject, and not something written with that line-up in mind.
People have different ideas of musical 'holy grails' -- mine would be an extra 3 or 4 'A' tracks on a Wilson box set, plus a full live show :-)
Had to believe they only recorded those 10 tracks, but who knows.
Given the relative success of all the boxes so far, I don't think they'd have to worry about sales.

Interesting thoughts Andrew and here's one of my favourites from 'A'. Cheers John
And who comes here to wish me well? A sweetly-scented angel fell, She laid her head upon my disbelief, And bathed me with her ever-smile.
I hope the boxes continue...I hope they don't do 'A' as a sort of test...I like it a lot and would be happy for the extras and the live stuff....but I fear it would sell less and inhibit future boxes.

Yes and unfortunately there will be a very small minority who won't buy it because of the line-up changes but they will not have the great pleasure of re-visiting such gems as Black Sunday, Fylingdale Flyer, Crossfire et al.
"Cutting off your nose to spite your face" springs readily to mind. In any case, Mark Craney's drumming is top notch.
.. and Pine Martens Jig (which for me is miles better than the two instrumentals on Stormwatch .. I loathe Warm Sporran ..) and really fun to figure out how to play on flute ..
While I strongly endorse more instrumentals as the path for live Tull future ( Tull future), adding Warm Sporran to set list I had seen the year before did NOT result in tears of joy etc....quite the opposite. Who says instrumentals have to be instrumentals? Why not deep catalog songs without vocals ?

Yes like Living in the Past off of A Little Light Music Tour. Mighty! Also always loved Dave Pegg’s (?) instrumentull of Cheerio on the 25th box. How bout 20 minutes of Forest Dance!
According to a David Rees post in the private JT GRoup facebook, Benefit repackage and A remix are in the pipeline. I dont have facebook, but if anyone here has access to tha tgroup, maybe they can share more information here.
Yes, it’s definitely not in my top 10 favourite Tull albums, but I’d buy a book edition in a heartbeat! There certainly shouldn’t be any shortage of live material to consider for inclusion.

I love the album, some great music there, I remember watching the Embassy siege in London on the TV as they showed the S.A.S storming the place. Fantastic music, but the outfits...hmmmmm...maybe not.
A is the 13th studio album by Jethro Tull. It was released on 29 August 1980 in the UK and 1 September of the same year in the United States. The album was recorded in the summer of 1980 using Maison Rouge Mobile and Maison Rouge Studios in Fulham, London.
jackinthegreen: Cream without Eric??? Santana without Carlos?? and not even with a stand-in player.....you're easily pleased, I reckon most people would not be happy to say the least...

jackinthegreen: If it was Scott that got Covid would they have played the gigs without a drummer?
May 1, 2022 0:01:38 GMT
ash: It's Tull not Cream and my answer stands. Now it there was no flute player...No flute no Tull . I've seen Ian play with just an ipod backing track it was great

jackinthegreen: "No flute, no Tull".......hmmmm tell that to MB when he's doing all the Tull stuff..
May 3, 2022 20:18:27 GMT
jackinthegreen: and I've seen Ian doing his one man thing with just the backing track too, but that's not billed as a Jethro Tull concert.....
May 3, 2022 20:19:44 GMT
jackinthegreen: I do agree he's brilliant at playing to his own backing tracks though
May 3, 2022 20:20:48 GMT
ash: My first answer stands in stone

smint100: Good Lord, why did no one tell me about the radio.net! I've spent a joyful afternoon in the garden watching the strawberries ripen - I mean, editing a book - and listening to unadulterated Tull. Heaven!
