9pm tonight on Sky Arts Channel - Discovering Music: Jethro Tull. "Music experts" explore the music of JT, should be interesting, if only to find out who these so called experts are!

Thanks jackrabbitmister - sky box programmed to record the show. Usually the "experts" are over the hill ex music hacks attempting to increase their pension by a few £s. You know the ones I'm sure. It was an opportunity lost as far as I was concerned. A rehash of video that we've seen before and a narrative that "borrowed" from previous programmes. Illustrative mistakes, for example, included a picture of the counterfeit copy of "Sunshine Day" when describing their first single on MGM and images out of context with the albums being described. But people may argue that any programme about Tull is worthwhile but when there is a wealth of genuine knowledge on places such as the Forum it does surprise me that programme makers don't look beyond the usual "talking heads" and really spend the time to produce something worthwhile.

There is a new documentary called 'New York Doll' about the bass player of the New York Dolls and that bands' reunion by special request of Morrissey in 2004. It features a lengthy segment of 'talking heads' from that era ( Morrissey, Bob Gedorf, Mick Jones) explaining why bands like The Dolls were so important and how critical it was to squelch and bury awful, terrible, horrible prog bands like Tull...they trash Tull by name and foto about 4 times in thirty seconds...but the images of Tull they use to justify their spleen are from much, much later than the punk revolution era. They show the cover of 'Living With the Past' as well as a few pictures of Ian well into banadana and old guy glasses.,,,,,Good journalism guys

www.tvovermind.com/fargo/excellent-use-jethro-tulls-locomotive-breath-second-season-fargo Excellent use of Jethro Tull’s ‘Locomotive Breath’ during the Second Season of Fargo Nat Berman April 6, 2017 I’ve always said that any movie can be made 100 times better with the right music. Some movies there’s simply no hope for but there are other movies that are made infinitely better by the correct usage of music. The same goes for television shows. Imagine how Shawshank Redemption would have been had Thomas Newman not scored that movie? Think about how different it would have felt. What if John Williams never scored Jaws? What would we have had? Like I said, some movies and shows are just poorly acted and directed so there’s zero hope. But it’s my contention that a mediocre body of work can be made extremely good by the right accompanying sounds. Speaking of which, if there’s one show on television that knows exactly how to use music, it’s Fargo. P.S. I’m going to make this a running segment – “perfect uses of music in movies and TV.” Anyway for our first excellent use of music in show, let’s go with the opening scene of Fargo Season 2, episode 7 where they used Jethro Tull’s “Locomotive Breath.” The song starts at around the :50 second mark.
