The Best Acoustic Rock Song - Top 40

We've counted the votes, taken controversial choices to independent adjudicators and finally put together the Top 40 Best Acoustic Rock Songs EVER.

The winner of the poll is one that isn't exactly known for their love of basic song composition

PINK FLOYD's WISH YOU WERE HERE beat very, very stiff competition from Extreme's More Than Words which pushed this poll absolutely all the way.

The 1975 title track from one of Pink Floyd's greatest albums was written after David Gilmour came to Roger Waters with an acoustic guitar refrain while the band were recording at Abbey Road studios. Waters came up with the lyrics and one of the greatest songs of all time was born.

While Pink Floyd won the poll, it must be noted that Led Zeppelin managed to get a massive SEVEN songs into the top 40, with the Page & Plant rendition of Gallows Pole (from their No Quarter album) also in the mix.

Wow, certainly an interesting and unexpected list of songs from a diverse list of musicians. It's good to see that Jethro Tull got their due recognition, especially with that particular song.

I certainly is an interesting list from Planet Rock DAB. There's a segment on one of the programmes where listeners can send in their own two acoustic favourites called "un-amped". Have sent in mine:

Family: My Friend The Sun


This went down a storm in concert ;D

Incidentally, do radio listeners in the States have Digital only radio as we have here in the UK and some parts of Europe or is still just AM/FM and satellite?

As nice as it is to see LALS on the list...I have always considered Wondering Aloud to be the be all and end all Tull acoustic cuts...oh well, maybe size does matter.
