Hello. One of my favorite tull albums happens to be minstrel in the gallery, partly because I hear Ian's more softer side to him I think, and the music is great. I feel that maybe the album tells a story of Ian's life at that time. Is there mainly a story theme to the album, especially the baker st. muse section?

Minstrel is definitely the most personal and biographical Tull album...written after his divorce and during the early stages of his courtship of his current wife while he was living in a bachelor type flat in London. Requiem was supposed to be an album side piece but got chopped down...summer day sands is part of it

Wow. that's really interesting. I love summerday sands. It's sweet in a way, but very sad, as it sounds like he may be talking about his first wife? or a girl he loved, and then she left. I always thought that maybe Ian lived in a hotel called baker st. muse for some reason. Lol. He also talks about a cheap hotel, so that's why I thought that. so, please tell me more about minstrel if you can. This is interesting.

The brits will roast me....a san franciscan for answering about baker Street...All I know for sure is that it was Sherlock Holmes' office address...and it's a busy, urban and urbane part of central london....Ian had lived in hotels and out of suitcases for literally years when, after passon Play, he stayed still long enough to have an address and a neighborhood to walk around....he didn't stay that long...soon they were on the road again and when he did win Shona's heart the well documented and written about country squire stage started. She got him out of the all black wardrobe, fattened him up a bit and the rest is history.

That really helped. Thanks for that info. I'm so glad Ian isn't sad now. Anyway, I always thought Minstrel, the song, was about him, maybe reflicting on his life, the people he met, the newspapers and the press, just everything, and he's kind of observing all of this. I don't know. I know it's strange asking what are songs about, and wondering because some have no meaning, but it's always interesting to find out, if there is a point or a story behind them.

Did he actually live on the Baker Street itself? ...and did he buy the flat www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-30936161.html

I wonder that too. Maybe his flat was on baker street? Or is that where the studio is?

My experience with West German police was the same...plus...apparently by some law or deep programming they were required to say the exact same thing everytime: Bist du farbeblind? ( Are you colorblind?). Explaining them the obvious importance of watching traffic, not lights, to stay alive failed to enlighten them and it usually ended with a ticket written against one of my many fake IDs, almost always Tull-themed ( John Tetrad) and some muttering about Amerikaner Kaotics. ;D ;D ;D Yes, it is weird over here. You MUST wait at a pedestrians crossing for the green light - even when the street is completly empty. You could even loose your driving license if you cross the street while the red light is shown. In London I like to play "Spot The German" - they are the only ones who wait for the green lights. ;D

That's interesting. I've enver been in London or Germany, so I like to learn about different things like that.
