You are over a year older than me. I am exactly the same age as NASA.
After seeing several pictures of you recently...
You remind me of a guy who kindly greeted me "Välkommen" (Welcome), when I entered the concert hall
at Jethro Tull's concert in Karlstad, Sweden, May 4, 2022...but it is likely my vivid imagination...
On the right side of the concert hall, Karlstad CCC (picture above), is Hotel River C, where I did stay. Practical, as it was close to the venue, friendly staff at the reception. In the reception there were coffee and cakes for free for hotel guests.
Early up in the morning, and several hours on the BUS from Oslo, I was a little tired when I arrived in Karlstad. (Norwegian TRAINS…you never know…if you are lucky to reach the Swedish border…it usually works after that.) I did not take any risks…
I met Ian Anderson on the street on my way to the hotel. It seemed that he recognized me. He just disappeared into Grand Hotel, so I thought the band did stay there. Then I did not expect the band staying at Hotel River C.
When I was entering the hotel, a group of people in the lobby greeted me “hello”. The only person I remember, after a short glimpse, could have been Scott Hammond, without the cap. From the reception, I could only see one of them, and that person I had never seen before. Later the same day I learned that the person was Jack Clark. The rest of the group was hidden behind a wall.
After check-in at the hotel, I had a cup of coffee in another part of the lobby. While sitting there, a guy I recognized as Joe Parrish arrived from the rooms section, and he sat down with Jack Clark.
I went to my room for a rest, and when I came back, another group of people had a meeting in that part of the lobby.
The concert hall opened the doors long before concert start. I was there early, because I did want to ask the ticket-staff some practical questions about any possible Corona restrictions. Then that guy greeted me “välkommen” (welcome). Maybe he was also one of the guys from the hotel lobby.
When I had got the information I wanted, I went outside again for a long while until the concert started. It was chilly outside in the nice park at the riverside, and I needed to be awake before the concert started.
When the concert started, sitting on first row, I did suddenly find myself face to face with a stranger on bass guitar. It took a while before I realized that he was the guy I had seen in the hotel lobby. If he was a good bass player or not, I don’t know, but he did his part on Bourree very well.
Joe Parrish was excellent on guitar. In fact, a good reason to go to Karlstad.
And thanks to John and Scott who where excellent as usual.
It was an excellent concert. Ian Anderson was in a good mood, even if he had a trainspotter on first row. It works as long as the same person does not show up on first row every night…
The next morning in the hotel, there were a lot of Tull fans at breakfast, but no band members were present then.
After then it was time for check out and the travel back home.
Are you still reading??? Thank you for listening. That was all. A long overdue travel report.
