I hear it's to make life a little better for people who brown nose...
Who's your comedy hero and why?

Billy Connolly - Why? I'm not sure I'm eloquent enough to give the man a just description! As well as being a hilarious wit and story teller he's a guru and bottomless pool of wisdom. If people like him ran the world life would be so much better. And nobody in the history of bad language can swear as well as he can.
And your question....What's something you have too much of?

A small plastic boat which I eventually dropped out of a hotel window in Dublin where it broke into many pieces. I was about 5 years old at the time and was on holiday. I then had a toy giraffe which went to "meet its maker" when I was about 7.
Question: Your favourite Carry On film

My ideal job would be an engine driver in the good old days of steam
Right then, why is it always me that gets the idiot sitting next to him on the bus?

Hi Sword couldn't resist posting this about steam trains;) ...Spine-tingling railway sleepers Sleepy houses lying four-square and firm. Orange beams divide the darkness Rumbling fit to turn the waking worm. Sliding through Victorian tunnels where green moss oozes from the pores..... Answer...Cause you like them really Question.. How much smaller will mobile phones get?

Forgot about this thread - sorry nonrabbit - it's a good one. I reckon mobile phones will either get as small as a credit card or less which will be easier for my daughter to mislay which she seems to do frequently OR they will go retro and we'll all be carrying around the large brick size ones from the early 90s . A question for our American members. Is Judge Judy for real?

1973 - the year my daughter was born and I was at the young and tender age of 25. Which person from history would you really like to meet? Chuck Yeager.........The closest thing I have to a "hero" - I'd love to hear his stories of the early days of the space programme. Ooops! nearly forgot the question. If you could paint like any artist who would it be and why?

Margaret MacDonald - Glasgow artist who had major world-wide exhibitions in the latter 19th Century early 20th oft overlooked as a major force behind Rennie MackIntosh (they were married) Her style was flowing, different and controversial for it's time and imo very beautiful! Plus they led such a bohemian way of live!!! Dennis Hopper or Jack Nicholson?

Why are the letters on a QWERTY keyboard laid out the way they are?
|
|
|
Post by TullSkull on Oct 5, 2008 14:04:28 GMT
To make typing faster... LOL Had to go do resurch on this, learned something...
qwerty 1929, from the first six keys on a standard typewriter keyboard, read as though text, from top left. Mechanical typewriter patented 1867; the QWERTY layout itself is said to date to 1887; it is not meant to slow down typists, but to separate the letters in common digraphs (-sh-, -ck-, etc.) to reduce jamming of swing-arms in old-style machines. It actually speeds typing by requiring alternate-hand strokes, which is one reason why the alternate DVORAK keyboard is not appreciably faster. Remnants of the original alphabetic typewriter keyboard remain in the second row of letter keys: FGH-JKL. The Fr. standard was AZERTY; in Ger., QWERTZ; in It., QZERTY.

Vail...you can ski every day for a motnh at vail and not get bored!...of course, France wouldn't be bad...certainly a cooler place for the off-slope hours and I've heard only good things about B.C...so keep Wyoming and send vouchers for the rest, please.
for those of you a few notches below Four Seasons accomodations: Hitch-hiking or freight train hopping?

Post by nonrabbit on Nov 1, 2008 9:54:54 GMT
freight train hopping ...(or "British Rail waiting'" - to translate into Brit speak ... cause I'd rather be surrounded by a few weirdos than be sitting locked in with one (I LOVE trains - would like to go on one of those with glass roofs- think it's in Canada or the Orient Express !!) QUESTION Backpacking around the world and staying in laid back hostels and having great fun and meeting lots of interesting people OR travelling the world first class staying in 5 star hotels and meeting lots of interesting people?

The new intern who sat across and down the conference table at an endless, stupid, training session yesterday...she may have smiled (or laughed) at me...hard to tell but I made sure to sign up for more of the same in hopes of seeing her again...didn't see any wedding ring and the e-mail address on the sign in sheet was connected to a local university...somehow a good sign. Next week I'll sit next to her and risk all by exposing the Tull tatoo ( Passion Play logo with TULL underneath) on my shoulder...when Ian saw it, many years ago...he suggested that a true fan would allow a tatoo in a much more sensitive place!
