Now this is a mystery, at least it is to me. It's an album called "Kid Jensen Introduces Sounds Progressive" issued in 1970 on the B & J Record label. It was produced by Bob Holmes and the album contains dreadful covers of classic songs such as Man Of The World, Spirit In The Sky, Badge and a really awful cover of Living In The Past with what sounds like a penny whistle playing the flute parts on the song. There are no musicians credited on the album sleeve which, if you heard the album, would be quite understandable. I can only assume that Bob Holmes plays most, if not all, of the instruments and also attempts the vocals.

The logo on the front of that record kind of sums it up - a sad smiley face

After searching on the web, I found this description of this album from a seller on ebay who had it on offer and sold it for £46.01 after 6 bids. I quote: On offer here is a VERY rare LP (especially in this condition!!!!) by Sounds Progressive called "Kid Jensen Introduces Sounds Progressive" and is an ORIGINAL 1970 UK 1st Pressing on the 1st Press Eyemark Label!!!! THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!!! THIS IS WITHOUT ANY DOUBT ONE OF THE ALL TIME RAREST UK PROG LPs EVER - AND VIRTUALLY NEVER TURNS UP FOR SALE!!!! JUST TRY AND FIND ANOTHER ONE!!!! BACK IN 1970 WHEN THIS LP WAS FIRST RELEASED - IT ONLY EVER SOLD IN ABSOLUTELY TINY AMOUNTS (ONLY A FEW HUNDRED COPIES AT THE VERY MOST!), AND WAS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY DELETED!!!! AS A RESULT IT IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO LOCATE TODAY!!!! JUST ASK YOURSELF - WHEN DID YOU LAST SEE ONE OF THESE? At www.netsoundsmusic.com/intellisearch/artist/Kid%20Jensen it's on offer for £210.

Are we talking of THIS Kid Jenson. The very same. He is Canadian by birth, which should please Bernie, and he's still peddling his wares on the radio in Britain and is now on Smooth Radio (snore). Spent many years trying to revert back to "David" Jensen but folks still refer to him as "the kid". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Jensen

Russian "Classic Masters" - at least they got sleeve notes Polish "Stormwatch" - there's a price tag on the album sleeve which has a price of 300 Zloty. Due to hyperinflation in Poland in the 1980's wages and prices rocketed, and the value of the currency diminished. In 1995, the new 'Zloty' was introduced, at a rate of 10,000 old to 1 new.

I read somewhere that the Original Masters Russian version was the biggest selling non beatles rock album ever in Russia up to that time...Melodia being the official soviet record company...it was legit, available and very high selling back in the USSR.

Think you're correct Bernie. I know that prior to the old Soviet Union starting to become "westernised", some rock music and probably other genres as well, was cut onto disused x-ray negatives that could be played on record decks and thus were disguised to avoid the authorities.

A word of vinyl warning. I was offered last week what purported to be an original copy of Martin Barre's pre Tull band The Penny Peep's single "Little Man With A Stick". Upon viewing a scan of the single, it turned out to be a counterfeit copy and after looking on the web it seems that not only has this particular single been "faked" but other high value singles by other artists have also been counterfeited. With The Penny Peeps single the faked copies are easy to spot. Liberty Records in the UK did not press singles with large US style centre holes in 1968. They were either pressed with a push out centre or, in some cases, with solid centres. Original UK Liberty Records issue Couterfeit copy An original copy of this single, in mint condition, can go for £200.
