. . . . from Ian Anderson: And the love that I feel is so far away: I'm a bad dream that I just had today and you shake your head and say it's a shame.
There was a rush along the Fulham Road There was a hush in the Passion Play.
. . . . and from Gerry Rafferty: He's got this dream about buyin' some land He's gonna give up the booze and the one night stands And then he'll settle down there's a quiet little town And forget about everything

Actually, I've always loved that line in your tag...
Another tea-time, another day older.
And the pink floyd equivelant.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

As with Tull, picking out lyrics from the Grateful Dead is an embarrassment of riches but from a great hippie invocation to the muse suitable for use at the Human Be In, circa 1/67 although this was conceived later that year I think, a bit from "the Eleven"
No more time to tell how This is the season of what Now is the time of returning With our thought jewels polished and gleaming
Now is the time past believing The child has relinquished the reign Now is the test of the boomerang Tossed in the night of redeeming

Nonsense prevails, modesty fails Grace and virtue turn into stupidity While the calendar fades almost all barricades to a pale compromise And our leaders have feasts on the backsides of beasts They still think theyre the gods of antiquity If something you missed didnt even exist It was just an ideal -- is it such a surprise?

The one from Paul Simon, who I've always rated as one of the most intelligent of songwriters alongside IA, is meaningful not only to Americans but to those of us who believe in a world free from tyranny.

Okay, taking moderately indecent liberties here, but because it speaks so clearly to what I consider to be a mini autobiography of the character of Ian Anderson and done from memory so forgive if I miss a word, but I probably won't
Like the Kipling cat, I walk alone, never inviting trouble, never casting the stone But this badge of honor is of tarnished tin, light your guiding beacon to bring this fisher in
Now some folks thrust their fist in the air to the lyrics of Freebird, that gets my fist in the air with very wet eyes, i must say, YES. And for all the speculation of his character from what often is a very presumptive fan base, and that of ex members, what on earth has Ian ever said the first time about any of them. Ok I guess he did write that one song, Fat Man, about Mick when he was about 21 or so and did used to introduce Martin as "fat and bulbous Martin Lancelot Barre, all 240 sweating pounds of him" again when they were about 22, but please, for all the speculation, Anderson has largely kept his mouth shut keeping state secrets just that. And I suspect all those ex employees would have considerably lower bank accounts and profiles were it not for IA, an opinion that I suspect John Evan and Maart would find eminently flawed. I call them blessed.

Oh goodee - a competition to see how many swear words you can get on a post.
Right, the first one to get "rasputin" in a line from a song gets top prize.
Seriously, that's it, [glow=red,2,300]NO MORE PLEASE OR YOU KNOW THE CONSEQUENCES.[/glow]

so simple but chic: 'seasons change and so did I...you need not wonder why'
And a non-sequiter from rambling Jack Elliot at the end of a long story , that haunted my teen years...and showed up again in a faces song: 'did you ever stop to shiver just because you were standing by a river ?

And here I am again, my girl, Wondering what on Earth I'm doing here.....
It's raining What has become of my painting All the colours are running So all the colours run See what they've become A wonderful sunset.........
I hear him, before I go to sleep And focus on the day that's been. I realise he's there, When I turn the light off and turn over.......
