Just got Songs From The Wood remaster and love it! I had never heard Beltane before and it is a great tune! However, there are a lot of unusual things on it. First of all, the production sounds extremely 80's. I know it was also on the 25 Anniversary Box Set. Perhaps that's where the actual recording is from; that is it was taken from that and put on the remaster of Songs From The Wood. There is virtually no signs of either John Evan nor certainly not David Palmer. It does not sound like Barriemore whatsoever and I would not be surprised if it is actually a drum machine. And Ian's voice sounds like it started to in the late 80's; more raspy. It is a great song, but just does not sound like it was recorded in 1977 or near that time. Any infomation on this wonderful but unlikely for Songs From The Wood song? Thanks and cheers to all!

In addition to the information there, the single was also issued in Ireland also with Beltane listed as the B side but alas that too plays Life Is A Long Song.

The question is/should be: Why was this track included on the Songs From the Wood remaster and not on the Heavy Horses remaster?
Songs From the Wood originally released Feb. 1977 & Heavy Horses released Jan. 1978.

Songs From the Wood originally released Feb. 1977 & Heavy Horses released Jan. 1978. Boy I would question those release dates even if borrowed from reputable sources. I say this as a result of having every Tull release from Passion Play to Dot Com the very first day it was available, 26 years of such behaviors, where I can nearly use them as life milestones. Now I can recall that there were notable differences in release dates going up to Living in the Past, the USA would not get them until a few months after the UK, maybe Canada and Europe got them earlier too. The SFTW date sounds nearly right though I would have it in my minds eye as having been March and very possibly April. Heavy Horses without a doubt was in the early fall, i would stake my condemned and highly damnable Tull head on these personal facts.

Are you high!? I can’t be certain about Evans and Palmers participation, but it bears every trademark of drummer Barriemore Barlow! Just listen to the use of the open hi-hat and tom-tom fills! This is the unmistakeable work of a live drummer!
