Following recent individual band member hassles, I gather that the very long awaited new studio album from Tull remains - long awaited. However there is a new re release of THIS WAS coming our way strangely right in the middle of the UK tour on April 28th.Have tried to find more info on this release but the only info so far suggests the album is a double....anyone have further info???

A bit more info here..... jethrotull.proboards61.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1206435031To be honest though it seems a bit of a strange idea to me, how many more versions of the Tull catalogue do we really need? I can see an all singing all dancing 40th version of Aqualung selling a decent amount outside of Tulls core fanbase but This Was? Who's gonna be buying this? Despite all the disagreements and arguments that went on previous tull boards I think it's safe to say the one thing we probably do all agree on is no more rehashes and reissues please Mr A....thanks!

I can't find any info on this yet but I've had a look on Amazon at the other classic artist releases and overall they get a big thumbs up in the customer reviews. Hopefully this could be a good set.

I've pre ordered the Tull Story dvd from play.com and they're usually on the ball. It'll be interesting to see whether the same old faces have contributed to it or if there's new stuff on it.

Exactly. I happen to like TW, but the remaster is good enough. If Tull is going to put out anything new, it should be new material-even if previous releases weren't all that, at least it's not the 40th version of Aqualung. Or worse, the Xmas Album.
If they are going to re-release something, why not release concert footage from the 70's? That would really be a crowd pleaser. It would show these young whipper snappers what a good band was all about back then.
Plus many of us who were "out of it" could see some of the bits we missed live...

the reason for the rerelease, of this was, is cause its the 40th anniversery of THIS WAS, its not the 40th anniversery of Aqualung, its got some BBC sessions and stuff from that time period. if you dont want another this was release then dont buy it, cheers

I appreciate the point – if one has no desire to purchase the 40th Anniversary Edition, then leave the cash in your pocket. However, having purchased A) The LP (second hand) in 1970 for, as I recall £17/6d. Yes, remember that was in the days prior to decimal in UK. B) The original cd C) The excellent first remaster (only 2 years ago!) I could venture the view that someone is out to make a few extra bucks. I have read the AND review and accept that the 40th Anniversary Edition may be a brilliant, technical recording/remaster in its 2 forms and will appeal to the collector. Have some of the BBC tracks been included on the 20 Year Box Set? Can I ask if the 40th Anniversary Edition is really, that much better than the last remaster? I may not bother with the purchase of this latest version and fully appreciate that no is holding a gun to my head in order to make me buy it. I just thought I would make a few comments. On a musical note, I love This Was. It was great to hear the “origins” of the IA/JT we were all going to love, as we grew older. In fact, Stand Up followed, with, IMHO, the fully matured JT. Now, that would be interesting Stand Up - the 40thh Anniversary Edition.

Can I ask if the 40th Anniversary Edition is really, that much better than the last remaster? Being far from trying to make you part with your hard earned dosh it has to be said that, yes, the 40th Anniversary Edition is in some respects slightly better than the Remastered Edition. The stereo mix is not as extreme as it used to be on all previous editions and the mono version is incredible dense and powerful. I was very sceptical at first and wrote some cynical remarks on another Tull forum, especially about the inclusion of the mono edition (I pointed out that I had a mono button on my system – which, in fact, I don’t have anymore), but when I saw it in the shop I held my breath, grabbed the damn thing and paid for it! Now I am quite glad I did and can only advise everyone interested in Tull and This Was to do the same, before the thing is gone and pops up on ebay for a fortune. Have some of the BBC tracks been included on the 20 Year Box Set? As far as I understand ALL tracks of the BBC Sessions (it’s plural) have been included and, thankfully, Stormy Monday Blues WITHOUT John Peel’s intro. KH
