Just read that Robert Kirby, who arranged some of the songs on the Nick Drake album Five Leaves Left, as well as working with Sandy Denny, Tim Hart & Maddy Priory and the Strawbs amongst others, passed away last month. There's a full obituary at www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/oct/07/robert-kirby-obituary for anyone who's interested.

Mad Dog,
Five Leaves Left is definitely in my top 5 albums of all time, and when the opportunity was there a month or so ago, I paid my respects to Nick at his graveside in Tanworth in Arden.
Robert Kirby's role in the album, when both he and Nick were very young, cannot be underestimated.

I never got to see Nick in concert (he did very few anyway as you know) but he's always been a class act. For those who don't know much about the man a visit to www.nickdrake.com/index.html is a must.

I'm re-reading Patrick Humphries' biography about Nick. A misguided person in his later days - also some brief mentions of Tull in the book as he was signed to Island records as well. Well worth finding a copy.

Just read the Nick Drake biography myself and loved it. I have been a fan of his for many years, my personal fav album is Pink Moon though I love them all. I have about 20 cd's of his, i am not a fan of folk music but love him.

And not before time Nick Drake enters folk hall of fameBy Mark Savage BBC Music reporter 7 March 2018 Photo: Bryter MusicDuring his short life, Nick Drake recorded some of the most influential music ever to come from the British folk-rock scene. Largely ignored at the time, his three albums - especially 1972's Pink Moon - have influenced artists like Norah Jones, Beck, REM and Elton John. To mark what would have been his 70th birthday, Radio 2 has announced he will be inducted to its Folk Hall of Fame. Drake's sister, actress Gabrielle Drake, will accept the award in April.
