www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlFeY-SzWyg While looking at Col's Waking Edge video I figured I would perform a quick check to confirm this video was already on here, and its not, though I am not certain I haven't seen it here under some different heading. Anyway while I have found enjoyment in Ian's interviews, in many ways as much as the music, I truly do not believe I have ever seen a more quick witted individual as regards humor, and apparently also as regards business. The stuff with the turtle, and the Central Park monster, priceless. As Ian likely knows there are monsters, and often high quality ones at that(NY is often the best at what they do and sometimes will let you know that) in Central Park, just not plee o sores or whatever the famous Scottish beastie is called. The station on which it appears I could not have a whole lot more contempt for, the single force that has done more to dumb down the world than any other from a musical standpoint. Exceptions allowed for Bjork videos and that endearing AHA yodeling cartoon thing, but particularly guilty for their "Day of the Dead" thing in 87 which dealt our scene a blow from which it truly never recovered. The Dead scene had always welcomed in anyone, after that program the increase in MTV, Metallica type mall kids dealt the Dead scene a blow, in massive ill behaved numbers, from which it never was the same. I hate MTV but as is often the case, the bad guys won, I am glad IA appears to be on my team though I am sure he would not want to admit it. BTW if you have never heard the interviews he has done on the Rockline radio show, well worth hunting down, often hysterical, such as when he claimed to be a doctor that you can confide in.

I will be today's trainspotter. This video is notable because of the drummer, its Dave Mattacks. I first saw this in 88, with the 20 year video, which would still be 3 or 4 years prior to Mattacks involvement in what I find to be their best tour since the 70's. Another notable one, I think from Germany in the 80's is a performance on TV of the song Broadsword with a properly bearded Bruce Rowlands on drums who I am sure the FC boys knew, this is along about the time he played a bit with the Fairports during a period prior to Mattacks returning, I think he was doing sessions with the likes of Sir Paul, XTC, RT and well and truly sundry at the time...and most times. Ever seen Dave Mattacks discography? I know he looks like a librarian but DM knows accenting, one heck of a player. Where in the hell is Patti?

Does Mattacks get a credit or two on crest? I'll check when i get home...probably not. I'm worried about Patti as well....she's disappeared from cyberspace...we better plan a trip to Ireland to find her soon.

Without looking Bernie, nearly certain that is something I would remember, certainly remember being geeked to hear he would be playing on the 92 tour as I think he and DP work so well together, to my Tull ears never better than on that tour, LITP, Beggars Farm and the instrumental parts of WYTTHM all jaw droppers. I do recall that another from that world, longtime Pentangle and now longtime FC drummer Gerry Conway may have had a play on that or the next record or both, hope that was cool with Doane, who I consider as fine as Tull has had, way less sure on who is best, I know what records I like best, not certain that equates with best drummer, they are all killers. Even Gerry Conway on such as I have heard of the Euro 82 tour sounds alot less lacking than I have been told, sounds fine on Broadsword, and was truly surprised to hear tapes of the American tour, that guy from 10cc, not a band I recall liking, sounded excellent.

I thought the drums on Clasp, both on BATB and during the tour, were amongst the coolest ever on a Tull song and I also rmember Mattacks being tremendous on the Lite Music Tour.

Mattacks was only in the Steel Monkey video, and not on any of the Crest recordings.
The reissue doesn't list Conway and Allcock as playing on Part Of The Machine...they did.

Another cool surprise from Remy! 1987 MTV Guest Vj Ian Anderson I want my, I want my, I want my TULL TV... Rare VHS from USA TV on 20.10.1987 transferred to digital format, although the images have suffered the course of time, I think it's an interesting document for Jethro Tull fans.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3J5hBJDRPcWhat great concert from 1987, with Budapest performed in all parts as made on the studio album (not edited as in other live), with guest of Ric Sanders from Fairport Convention on violin! I hope to see this concert in a future Crest of a Knave collector's edition!

"I used to really enjoy listening and indeed recording the BBC Radio 1 In Concert series on a Saturday evening during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. I also caught a few BBC Radio Friday Rock Show and Capital Radio sessions. I still have the cassette tapes and as the BBC has no immediate plan to make these available to the public I have decided to release close to 250 of these historical recordings on my YouTube channel."

Jethro Tull / Ian Anderson in Kippevel (1987) It was in 1987 that Crest of a Knave was released. As usual, a concert in The Hague, the Congress building, followed on 11 October. The Kippevel program was there and interviewed Ian Anderson to promote the new LP (yes!). Beautiful images from almost a quarter of a century ago.

This is the opening night of the Crest of a Knave 'Not Quite The World, More The Here And There Tour' - at Edinburgh Playhouse October 4, 1987. It was also Don Airey's first concert with Tull.
I really enjoyed watching and listening to Tull on the road again; I especially loved seeing them in the UK, in an intimate and friendly setting.
Usually Tull play extra songs on the opening night as they fine tune the setlist. In this case, they did not play Steel Monkey which was added the next night.

Ian Anderson 11-4-87 hosts music video showcase Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson hosts an hour of music videos by his band and others, while boating, chatting with seniors, and flirting with an actress-model in New York City's Central Park, as broadcast 11-4-87. Anderson introduces videos by World Party (who he says very nice things about), the Grateful Dead, Robert Palmer, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Winwood, the J. Geils Band, and others. Host segments only - no music videos are included. The BetaGems channel also has "Ian Anderson Feb. 1988 interview NCT/National College Television," "Jethro Tull 11-29-95 daytime TV performance," and "Jethro Tull 4-28-92 TV performance & interview." BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded from 1983 into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on Youtube or online. Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads... In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.
