2009 sees the 25th anniversary of the Channel 4 TV programme “The Blood Of The British”. This was an 8 part history series, written and presented by Dr. Catherine Hills and to quote the official press release at the time “. . . might impel the viewer to make his or her own pilgrimage to our nation’s past, and to identify, perhaps, with our nation’s heritage”.
In any case, what drew Jethro Tull fans to the programme was the fact that David/Dee Palmer wrote the music and Ian Anderson sang the original short version of Coronach which was later re-recorded and officially released by Chrysalis in 1986.
At the time of the programme’s transmission I was able to obtain a copy of the music cue sheets for the 8 programmes and they were published in an early edition of A New Day magazine but to mark the 25 years since the series was first broadcast I think it is appropriate to detail the music as it was broadcast on each programme for the benefit of the forum’s members.
In all cases the individual programme title is followed by the original transmission date and the music titles are followed by the time duration. In every case Coronach 1 is the instrumental version which was played over the opening titles and Coronach 2 is the original, and so far unreleased short version, with vocals by Ian Anderson which was used over the closing titles. All music was written and arranged by David/Dee Palmer and published by Talbyrd Music. The programme production company was The Unicorn Organisation and the entire series was repeated by Channel 4 commencing in June 1986.
