I think in the beginning 90's, there is a turning point in part because until then they made tours in defending a new album,( the dot.com barely had repercussions on tours) and later are the years when Ian finally loses his voice and start play old songs, Years of shows very repetitive and sometimes boring. I think this new album (TAAB2) was necessary and may mark another turning point, time will tell... ;D And then there's the certain fact that around 1989 many Tull fans born just after WW2 were turning 40 and the pressures of family life were possibly becoming less frantic with the children becoming older and this, in turn, lead to people venturing out more to live events and concerts. Whatever the reason, it is "strange" that 1989 is regarded in such a way.

Steel, u always make a good point. Couldnt agree w/ u more. When Tull would come out w/ a new album and play most of that album on their supporting tour, that was was the best. And, in 1989 (which was like the last year they did that) I didnt care so much that Ian's voice was $h1t, b/c at least they were playing their new, vibrant music and the MUSIC was more imp to me than Ians vocals

Oddly, when they did most of Roots, after quite a few 'stuck on 25 year hits' tours, it was nice to get a wallop of new songs, both Roots and Divinities...but it didn't really measure up to earlier years when the tour and album were one..maybe because the rest of the set was too predictable or maybe their live show had just lost momentum and intensity by that time...but it sure enough is...back now...last gig was fresher than fresh and newer than new, every millisecond. TAAB 2 brought them all the way back to best your(s) ever comparisions (72,73,75)

Remember it well Jim. Graham Smith and I did the entire UK set of concerts in a fried out VW camper van - it broke down somewhere north of Carlisle. I believe young master Bunkerfan was at the Newcastle concert and Bernie and I most likely met in the pub opposite the Hammersmith Apollo. jethrotull.proboards.com/post/63147jethrotull.proboards.com/post/63164jethrotull.proboards.com/post/63167jethrotull.proboards.com/post/63170

Thanks for posting these videos. Interesting to hear IA say that he now he is his 40s, he can only put in about 85% physical effort or 90% on a good night. Wonder if he ever imagined he would still be performing and putting in admirable physical effort in his seventies?
