Just remembered. I got Martin's wife (Julie?) crazy that nite. Ha! The show was billed as "Martin Barre" w/ Willy Porter opening. So we get their for Marty's set and Willy Porter comes out after like Barre's secong song and stays on stage the reat of the nite. The band winds up doing many more WP songs than MB! (and MB was supposed to be supporting his 'Stage Left' thing). So we're standing at the bar and I'm commenting to my friend about how this really sucks, Martin's a wimp and all that. A little blonde lady comes up to me, smiling, pointing her finger and saying :"You're a naughty boy!" I start walking up the stairs to leave (the show was terrible) ans she's walking up w/ me and we continued our conversation. I really felt like she was hitting on me as we were alone on the stairs ("you naughty naughty boy" and all that). She was petite and blonde but def had those signs of age (crow's feet and like that). I was a 37 yr old and quite handsome but then I really started telling her that MB's a great guitarist but a wimp and she started getting really pissed so i just left. left"

Jeff and I were both at that show Tommie and we've discussed how disappointing it was to see Martin take a back seat to WP even though he was in a headlining role. It's obvious he prefers to be in the background. Oh yeah, before I forget. Is there any Tull member that you ever exchanged kind words with? ;D

Willy's a friendly guy, and I like some of his tunes, but I didn't pay to see him, I paid to see Martin. Half the show consisted of Willy doing his songs with Martin and other Tull members backing him. Then, as you may remember, there was that moment when Martin said those two particular words in what clearly seemed to be a mocking tone. Jeff

I've tried, TM ...I've tried. For example, at some of Ian's "Rubbing..." shows I thought I'g get a chance to tell him nice things b/c the audience was gonna get the opportunity to ask questions but it didn't happen. But, when I was about 11, I DID write Ian a gushing fan letter c/o Chrysalis and I got back a photo with Ian writing a generic "To all Tull Folks..." I'm sure there were thousands of those ha!

TM, it's so interesting that you say MB prefers to be in the background, but this was absurd b/c it was HIS show ans I paid to see HIM. But I supposed he is really shy, maybe even to the point of having a very low self-esteem (I'm serious here) b/c maybe that's why he's the only one who could put up with Ian for lo these 40 years

Obviously Martin and the guys had to be having a tough time with Ian. Remember Martin inviting the guys on his website to come out and get away with some Vitamin Canada? Also I remember Martin putting Willie on the spot asking him to commit to another tour together.

I don't know about low self-esteem, but it's less pressure on him for sure. More time to spend on the things that are important to him.
