On Friday last week the Spanish fanclub Tullianos and some Itullians organized a Tull party in Rome. They invited Jacqui McShee, Gerry Conway and Dave Pegg to play with the tribute band OAK.
The singer/fluteplayer/guitarist Jerry Cutillo ruined the day.
He is such a bigheaded fart, it is unbelievable.
During the soundcheck we were outside for a cigarette. Back at the entrance was a security guy and he said, that we were not allowed to go in while Jerry is doing his soundcheck.
There was no setlist and the songs he told Peggy and Gerry to learn were not the ones he wanted them to play now.
The evening started with another tribute band. They were okish.
But then it was showtime for OAK:
Without warning he played the complete APP, half of the audience was gone after that. He did not mention Gerry Conway and Peggy, so that people did not know that they were going to play some songs after that.
Before the show started Peggy met an old friend, Marco, who used to live in Ireland, where he learned to play the fiddle. He is a very good fiddle player, so Peggy, Gerry and Marco did some quick rehearsals for some jiggs and reels. Jerry heard it and tried to join in with his flute, but because he did not know the tunes, he could not play with them.
But when they went on stage he followed with his guitar and he played with them. And he acted on stage like he was conducting the others.
Peggy tried to do some stage banter, but no way. Whenever he went to the microphone, Jerry took the other one to ruin Peggy´s jokes.
The big final was "Aqualung" and "Locomotive Breath" and again Jerry was the big conductor.
He was responsible for the organisation, so we did not have enough cars to get us back to the hotel, nobody knew what was going on all day, ...
So whenever you see a gig where OAK is involved: be warned!!!!
