I'm really looking forward to this album and tour - more so than any other.
I've grown to really like Mark's solo work.
I wouldn't mind seeing Ian follow a similar path. It would do wonders for his vocals.

Over the last year I've also really got into Mark's solo work. I adore his Guitar work and his songs. It's funny, I kinda feel Mark is filling the gap that Tull's lack of new material has left. His music gives me the same buzz as Tull and judging by the amount of Tull fans now into Mark, I guess his music is pushing the same buttons. I've not looked forward to a new album like this for years. Roll on September.

I had the good fortune to see Dire Straits perform in London in their prime and it was one of the best non-Tull concerts I've seen. I thought his solo album Sailing to Philadelphia was a classic but that his last one Kill To Get Crimson was a bit of a let down. I hope the new album is better. If you get the chance and can find it on the internet, have a listen to the "1977 Alternate Demos" bootleg which contains most of the songs from the first Straits album in demo form. Well worth a listen.

Well worth a listen. Yeah Sailing to Philadelphia is a classic but I thought Kill To Get Crimson was excellent. I really like his love of folk music and I see he has brought in some heavy weight traditional musicians for the new album. Michael Mcgoldrick on Flute and the very talented John McCusker to name a few. Check out Guy Fletcher's Diaries: www.guyfletcher.co.uk/diaries/index.phpHe follows and documents most of the recording of Marks solo albums including the new one. Also, I think I read on wiki that Mark Knopfler referred to Ian Anderson and Martin Barres work as magical.

Heavy Horses The disc is also a marvellous summation of Barre’s style, which Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler has called “magical”—a blend of jazz, rock, and folk teamed with a fondness for controlled, sugar-dipped distortion that’s made him utterly unique.

Knopfler is actually Ian's alter ego. They both sound very much the same, their gig dates never clash, and in performance watch Knopfler's left foot rising to knee height then being hastily lowered...

Ian certainly sounded like Knopfler on Crest and Rock Island. You can listen Get Lucky from the new album over at www.markknopfler.com/. Some nice low D whistle playing and beautifully recorded. I'm really looking forward to this album.
