This is a joint effort from post 1
We need to post what we think is Tull's best romantic song first and then Poll to decide what really is ! well on a general basis cause it won't really change a person's views anyway.... etc etc
Just add to the list and in no particular order either... oh and there may be some unusual choices which I'm sure we would all love to hear why ;D

After stopping for a few minutes to consider this I am afraid mine, and likely others, is an identical response, so I will stretch license here to include in the 1 and 2 spots songs that somewhat loosely fit in the romantic spot
1 Hunting Girl 2 Velvet Green 3 Fire at Midnight I would like if Gift of Roses as well were a romantic song but actually it is not although occasionally the lyrics taken out of context might lean in that direction. But truthfully in the most literal sense of a romantic song my list would nearly ape Non Rabbits with the orders messed with
1 Fire at Midnight 2 Jack A Lynn 3 Wondring Aloud ( specifically the version on the 20 years set, done in tandem with Dun Ringill) although that version on Living With The Past gets an honorable mention. Will the years treat us well one of the most poignant lines.

Yeah man, I don't even agree with myself, was just trying to add variety to what already struck me as the penultimate list Non Rabbit had listed. Hunting Girl is quite strictly about sex and ribald sex at that. I would like to include Reasons For Waiting, the official song of my first serious romance but it gets aced by the others mentioned. Curious as to your take on Slow Marching Band, likely my favorite song off Broadsword, an album that I would place in the above average Tull category. Was a little bit surprised to read either here or on TalkTull, another Tull board I contribute on, (If you are unaware of this board, well worthwhile, including at least an annual doling out of about 5 or 6 re calibrated live recordings of Tull thru the years, always of top boot quality, and another group of very nice people) of one of the individuals considering Broadsword as Tull's worst record, and sort of a tenor of everyone knows that. And I think its a good Tull record even before the inclusion of the famous extra tracks. But, there again, I'm the imbecile who thinks Rock Island was their best 80's record, with the possible exception of that obscure live 84 record, or, if I were to judge individual records from the 5 LP box set at least 2 of them would rate the highest. Under Wraps 2 would be another one meriting serious consideration, evocative of my 80's dearie who had Ian's ear when I did not.

Actually I can see the romance in Gift of Roses and Slow Marching Band but the intended target I believe is the flock, that is, us, not a woman.

Velvet Green is seductive and sexual, but I'm not so sure it's romanitc. The protagonist is deceiving his love interest for lustful purposes, fully intending to discard her when he's done. That's kind of anti-romanitc. The Whistler, on the other hand, is very romantic. Bends Like a Willow too. There's a lot more.

Seal Driver: "I;m no great looker, I'm no fast shakes...but I'll give you a steady push..." sounds like a romantic come on to me...maybe the same humble narrator as Pibroch..."I'm an inshore man, and I'm nobody's hero...but I'll make you tight....' that's romantic, dammit.
Alright..." I could captain you if you crew for me'...is a bit sexist...but what the hell..it could go either way...male to female or vise versa

I agree with Jeff too there are loads of songs! and just to make it harder I would probably base my choice on one or two lines of lyrics that just hit the spot rather than the whole song. It doesn't have to be romance between a couple either eg Journeyman is a romantic image of a train journey probably in Autumn in the English countryside just as night falls.......well ok stretching it a bit maybe I just like trains as well

I'm thinking it's a tie between Reasons for Waiting and The Whistler.
What a reason for waiting, and dreaming of dreams. So here's hoping you've faith in impossible schemes, that are born in the sigh of the wind blowing by, while the dimming light brings an end to a night of loving. -------- Deep red are the sunsets in mystical places, black are the nights on summerday sands, we'll find a speck of truth in each riddle, hold the first grain of love in our hands.
Songs don't get more romantic than that.

How bout Inside?
"Take a walk around the block and be glad that I've got me some time to be in from the outside, and inside (with) you
And I won't worry about a thing because we've got it made, here on the inside, outside so far away
Take a walk in the park, does the wind in the dark sound like music to you? Well I'm thinking it does to me. Counting lambs, counting sheep we will fall into sleep and awake to a new day of living and loving you so."
(I have a minor quibble on the 'with'. No matter what I've read, I do NOT hear it.)

Fires at Midnight is one of Ian's most evocative songs, the way it makes you feel like you're in a cabin in the woods. Jeff

On it he says Seal Driver is about his boat and something about having a shaving mirror but never using it. When I met him said boat was sitting nearby and I asked him if that was Seal Driver, I am pretty sure I was met with silence, at least I don't remember a response, but it did lay the groundwork for most of our conversation about the difficulty of operating a boat on Loch Slapin, apparently lots of deadly obstacles, and the closest Coast Guard equivalent being 2 hours away in Ft William.

Well if Velvet Green is considered romantic we might as well add this one. Now unless yourself or others disagree with me ( and just jump in at anytime/anywhere and tell me - don't be shy;)) I can't see anything romantic in the song Kissing Willie. I think Velvet Green was included because of the setting ;D seriously ;D

I think Velvet Green was included because of the setting ;D seriously ;D Well the intent is not romantic. Which has me thinking that we may need to add A Better Moon to the list. Okay now let's have a look... Breaking hearts in a market town. She eats filet of sole and washes it down with sparkling wine. Nice girl, but a bad girl's better. Qualifies in both ways to my mind. But now she's kissing Willie.
She shows a leg shows it damn well. Knows how to drive a man right back to being a child. Well, she's a nice girl, but her bad girl's better. I can read it in her cheating eyes and know that in a while. Well, she'll be kissing Willie. (My best friend, Willie.)
Willie stands and Willie falls. Willie bangs his head behind grey factory walls. Well, she's a nice girl, but her bad girl's better. Me and Willie just can't help come, when she calls. Now she's kissing Willie. (My best friend, Willie.) Nothing there but good old fashioned fun. I'd say you're right.
