:)I prob asked this before, but every year or so, as I marvel one again @ Ian's prowess on, especially flute and acoustic,..........I cant fathom that he never was taught even the basics by anyone else.
Anyone know any facts re: this or any comments he's made regarding lessons, training, etc.? It seems anything he tried he could play, and has played: violin, sax, trumpet, bass, keys, etc.
Don't recall reading anything about his family being musically inclined as he was growing up, either. Anyone can supply info on this musical genius?
Thankssssssssssssss!

I also wonder whether he's ever taken voice lessons. Jeff

The story...and he's sticking to it, is that he never had flute lessons...just found his way around the fingerings and the notes...his daughter signed up for lessons...brought the info home and shared it with Dad...and his flute playing improved tremendously...sometime around 1993.

As for the other instruments he is probably in the same league as Maartin Allcock who can pick up an instrument and be proficient with it in a very short time, probably even in a couple of weeks which, when he was with Fairport Convention added enormously to their overall sound. It's something they do lack these days IMO. I call it gifted and it's one attribute many would wish they had.

A local reviewer, years ago, described Allcock as ' a man who could coax a scale out of a kitchen sink'.....so true!
