Q & A time again folks! This time Dave Pegg has been kind enough to subject himself to one of our gentle grillings so many thanks Dave. I'm sure most of you know the formula by now but for the benefit of any new folks that have recently joined us all you need to do is just post your questions to Peggy in this thread which I will lock in two weeks time for me to collect and send on (closing date 21st March) So get your thinking caps on gang and let's get some good questions!

Hello Peggy...hope you and yours are well and please accept late condolensces on the very sad passing of Rob Braviner. As a fan of both Tull and Fairport, I look back fondly on the era of joint touring and musical cross-pollination. Are those days done and gone or might we again be blessed with Fairport touring with Tull and appearances by you, Ric and any of the other mighty Fairporters on stage with Tull again in the future

Hi Dave.
First off, are you contemplating another solo album at any time?
Secondly, when you and Maartin Allcock were in Tull you managed to sneak in some Fairport/trad style tunes. These never made it to "official" recordings and I wondered if there was any chance of you issuing these, and others, as a duo with Maart.
Thirdly, as a appreciative listener to Nick Drake's songs, what are your thoughts about him after all these years, especially those songs of his that you played on.
And finally, do you miss the rock star/Spinal Tap life you must have had as a member of Tull, jetting across the world and all ports west of Basingstoke.
Regards, Graham, now of Cornwall

Hi, Dave,
1. I'm a big fan of your bass work, particularly on Tull's 'A' album, which, on some tracks for me, lifts fairly mediocre material, by Tull's standards, to a higher enjoyment level. I was wondering if you could explain what, if anything, you did to obtain that pretty distinctive sound you used.
2. Which other bassists do you find inspirational, admire or simply enjoy?
Cheers, Jeff, Folkestone, UK.

Greetings, Dave. A) On the very underrated "Under Wraps" album, I thought your bass work eas extraordinary, especially since it was a drum-programmed album. Looking back, your thoughts on that album?
B) What are your thoughts on bassist Jack Bruce? Thanks!

Dave, thanks for all of your contributions over these many years. They have not gone unnoticed and will always be appreciated.
My question - In retrospect, what are your thoughts on Catfish Rising, your last recording with Tull?

Additional question from maddog.
Dave, your early career saw you play with many "beat combos" in Birmingham, including a spell playing with John Bonham and Robert Plant, and I would guess these groups played UK style R 'n' B. What made you decide to switch musical styles and delve into the murky world of folk music, first with the Ian Campbell Folk Group and from there onto Fairport ?
Thanks

Dave, during your tenure with Tull you witnessed various line ups and changes in musical direction. Do you have any particular favorite line up and musical period? And one more thing Dave, would you like to perform/record with Ian once again given the chance?

I'm going to leave this Q & A open until friday as we need a few more questions before I send it off. So, last call everyone, please post any questions you'd like to ask Dave before the closing date, thanks.

Dave
Thanks for the contributions for Tull and for celarly having a major input into one of Tull's most creative periods. My questions:
Any particular drummers around that you would like to work with, or any other musicians you haven't worked with to date that you would like to collaborate with?
Finally which bass players, if any, inspired you?

What ho Dave
Which musicians over the years have you admired from whatever musical genre, would you like to play alongside?
When playing/recording/writing get too much, what do you do for relaxation?

Which (if any) Tull album do you most enjoy listening to these days. And which was the most fun to record?
With Fairport it strikes me that putting together set lists and coming up with new arrangements is very much an ensemble affair with everyone contributing. Whereas with Tull the impression is that Ian always took control of this. Is that a fair assessment? Did yourself and other Tull members have much say in what was played live?
Cheers Andy, Evesham
