The May edition of Record Collector will include an article by Martin Webb - 40th anniversary celebration of Jethro Tull collectibles. I think it comes out last week in April. NOW PROMISE NOT TO LAUGH BUT 2008 New release is... Jethro Tull's 'This was' - 40th anniversary remaster edition 2-cd issued by EMI on 28 April featuring a CD debut for the album's mono mix, single mixes, nine session tracks from john peel in July and November 1968 and four additional mono cuts Oh Jesus I can hardly wait ( to line the pockets of EMI yet again) So... if you like This was but want to hear it in crappy Mono and don't have the BBC sessions bootleg well here you go... Sorted !! So how about for 2009 a remastered totally instrumental version of thick as a brick with an instrumental only tour that would kill several birds with one stone !!

Oh deep joy, why can't they do what genesis have done and completely remix the albums in surround sound and release them as SACD and DVD double packs, who wants a crappy mono mix we need crystal clear gold standard stereo or surround remixes, this was is not one of my favourite tull albums anyway bad enough I got to listen to it live on the tour ;D

I had a thoguht today (just the one mind!)...if we are going to get more releases of old stuff I'd like to see the 20 Years video get a budget release on DVD. I haven't got a video player any more so it would be nice to be able to watch that again, maybe with the full Madison Square Garden TV broadcast added on too.

I've had it with them, TM. It's taken me a long time but I've finally fallen off the Tull bandwagon ever since attending the Newark show in November. That was horrible. I refuse to buy any more recycled stuff or live performances (of current or recent Tull) or orchestral stuff or best of acoustic, etc. I regret buying a ticket for Jones Beach this summer. That may be the final Tull show I ever attend because, iIn the future I will not attend any more Tull or IA shows or buy any Tull products unless and until they release a bona fide new album. And even then I may not. Jeff

But I've yet to decide what I'll do this year. This years' show does sound a bit more inviting. According to Ian the focus of this tour will be on the early years - the first three albums. Whether it's true or not remains to be seen of course. The other thing is the "Frampton Factor" - the return of the support act verses the all too familiar guest violinist. So in other words, no theme from The Godfather, Queen or Led Zeppelin this time out. Vocals aside, it could be a good show. One last go at being Jethro Tull? Possibly.

My thoughts on this are from a slightly different angle. When I saw the set list for this tour I was a happy nonbunny and then I got to thinking - Do I really want to go ? Tull were/are and prob always will be my favourite band (and Benefit was the daily dose of Tull for me) although loved all the albums from the 60's/70's/and early 80's! Saw the Brick tour and then didn't see them again - nothing to do with the band! Just let other things get in the way of listening to music (being married to a musician/composer and having music morning/noon and night- I was glad to sit in a quiet room with a book In the last year I have 'come back' to music with a vengence can't get enough of Tull (early) and new bands !! And the gap has made the music of Tull even more sweet - the clarity of sound is incredible - it's like finding it all over again ! Dilemma ! Do I go back and see them ? Suppose this dilemma /post could be on a Zep board as well as it must be an issue for some people to see bands from the past !!! Would love to hear if anyone has/had this angst !! All answers will be duly welcome and pondered over before 2nd May

Made me go and did out my mono vinyl "This Was". It still plays well although it's not exactly mint as it's been played to death somewhat. To my old ears the mix sounds slightly different to the new mono mix. Anyone care to comment?
