Many great films mentioned already. Apocalypto was reasonably well done, more of a thriller in the last half than a documentary, that's for sure and the trees were excellent. Life of Brian is excellent throughout and is very informed, hilarious and deeply witty when it's being critical. The most recent Star Trek was quite well done - that series needed a total refreshment and it got it. The movies and TV series had been worse than stale for more than a two decades.
I'm going to leap into other suggestions for you, and maybe you should just Google "top one hundred" for these: Bollywood, documentaries, aboriginal, art house, classics, Criterion, westerns, music, war, travel, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Canadian, Swedish, Turkey, African, science, science fiction, future, speculative, fantasy, sports, humor.

The latest Star Trek was an interesting film and re-envigorated the franchise somewhat. Your other suggestions in your second paragraph I'll put down as a project for the New Year. Many thanks.

The wonderful British Film Industry archives channel has once again came up trumps I know I go on about it but I can't praise it enough for reworking long forgotten documentaries and films and giving a great insight into life in Blighty.
A George Harrison production seeing the light of day after 40 odd years - anyone catch it the first time around? Full of 70's political angst and a nasty shouting leader.

Watched The Hobbit last night. Masterpiece. I read the negative reports - too long, too much flight/fight etc however I think the pace and the length of the film was entirely justified in telling the tale of how it all started. Beautifully filmed and Martin Freeman is much more quirky than I think James McAvoy would have been and less "manic" than perhaps what Dr Who, David Tennant would have brought to the part.
Andy Serkis is his usual brilliant self.

I wasn't sure of who all the actors were playing the part of the dwarves, I had a vague recollection that Ken Stott was in it I nearly died when I saw him, Great actor! What about Sylvester McCoy playing his usual wild and wacky self? ;D Jack-In-The-Green...Radagast i35.images obliterated by tinypic/fk30ax.jpg[/IMG] Heard good things about The Life Of Pi although I didn't see it in the cinema - I get seasick

Saw t' Hobbit in the cimema on its release (along with five good friends - none of them elves or dwarves or hobbits! ;o) Thought it marvellous! Bought DVD on first day it was released - re-watched it - enjoyed it even more that second time of asking, despite smaller screen etc - a masterpiece indeed! Fine cast - agree with all mentioned thus far - still think McKellen is tops! - thought James Nesbitt was good too. And as a devotee of Galadriel incarnate.... sigh! ;o)

This looks rather good Star Trek Into Darkness I’m a huge Trekkie and I can’t wait to see this movie! I became a Star Trek fan in 1966 and a Tull fan in 1969. My formative years!

Well I've came late to this story having never read the book so therefore I was completely blown away with the film. One of the most original stories I've ever heard. Like a stunning modern version of an Aeosop Fable in many ways or the Indian Panchatantra... What can you say about the film...think my sensory receptors would have overloaded if I'd seen it in 3D at the cinema. Beautiful. i42.images obliterated by tinypic/nezynd.jpg[/IMG] madhuribanerjee.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/a-spiritual-review-of-ang-lees-film.html

Interesting film on the horizon. It's got mystery, magic mushrooms and the Unseen. A Field In England"dark, psychedelic costume drama" "The film, shot gorgeously in black and white, is set in a field during the English Civil War" "..Things were quite different in the seventeenth century. During this turbulent era magic had not yet been sifted from science. Belief in astrology, the second-sight, witches, elves, giants and fairies, not to mention the devil..." excellent write up here however it gives some of the plot away; www.spiralearth.co.uk/news/letcherstory.asp?nid=7761There's a Tull costume or two in there

Watched The Hobbit 2 The desolation of Smaug last night. Mesmerising. Beautiful settings, more fast paced than the first one, added extras by Sir Jackson to the original story and I think they worked well, plenty of eye candy too i58.images obliterated by tinypic/15yarl1.jpg[/IMG] sorry wrong dwarf i62.images obliterated by tinypic/4s0axi.jpg[/IMG] the pretty dwarf

Did you not see my updates on the Shoutybox a few months ago about my marathon Breaking Bad sessions? I think I watched about 3 hours every session. I watched it on Netflix and cursed every time the internet went on the blip. What bit are you up to? Acting is superb. Saul the bent lawyer has a spin-off show coming out soon.

I think archery is a very elegant form of sport? When you say 'worked' with him was that in archery as well? Does your friend have a blonde wig and fake pointy ears?

I didn't see that Patti......sorry.... ....but you have made my day telling me that you are a fan... Isn't it brilliant..... Just starting the 4th series, we try and watch it when we can, but all the other stuff gets in the way...... Other stuff being the soaps that Mrs Jackinthegreen watches...... We watch 3 or 4 episodes at a time on a Sat or Sun evening..... It is so well casted, well acted, well scripted, it goes from being scary, to funny, to very sad, all in an episode....... Did I mention I like it........

Sorry that I didn't reply more rapidly... Archery is Lars Andersen's hobby, but he has a tendency to take everything he does to the highest level... I have never been involved in archery myself, but we have both worked on a school in Lyngby, SFO Hyldebo, Engelsborgsskolen. I think that Lars have done something that is absolutely unique. He has revolutionized a sport, and I am convinced that this will effect archery profoundly in the years to come... and that he has proven that it actually can be done, is beyond me... He is a doer, and a thinker... I don't think that he has a blond wig, and pointy ears? ... No, no pointy ears... He has got rather big feet though...

Yes, Bernie Is officially from now "El Cuarto Amigo or Amico" of The Plethora Group. To celebrate it let's play a special suite in your behalf . Later there'll be free drinks and snacks and of course background Tull music to listen or dance. A really treat and excitement. Everyone is hosted. Pay Graham and TB.
