Wow...wish i could be there....£25 seems very low for a charity gig that holds 150 folks...maybe we could organize a modest donation on behalf of our fan forum...any thoughts? New Day would probably cooperate in letting us use their credit card technology to tote up some donations...I'd be in for the price of a ticket in a heartbeat...do we have any ambassadors to 'New Day' ?

Anyone going? I can't go myself but a review of the event for this forum would be appreciated. Brilliant, thanks for the tip off and well spotted as it's not on the official site yet! I went to St Brides a couple of year ago and it was a fantastic night so if you can get to this gig book yourself a ticket now before it sells out!! I'll see you there. Last time the show was for St Mungos, a charity for London's homeless and I assuming it's going to be the same this time so if you can't go but would like to make a donation you can do so here www.mungos.org/Christmas has officially begun. ;D

I'll leave Col to supply the formal review, images and a couple of other possible bits of news, but all in all it was a very enjoyable night and Ian and Tull were on good form.
Tull being for this gig, Ian, Martin, James Duncan, Dave Goodier, and John O'Hara.
Much along the lines of the previous show at St Brides, but with a few additions in terms of guest "readers" ......and of course Martin on guitar.
Readings from Ian [Walter Scott's Marmion], Gavin Esler [Journalist - BBC's Newsnight,] Mark Billingham [Crime Author and stand-up comedian], and Andrew Lincoln, [Actor, as well as being Ian's son-in-law]
So from Chez Quizz, A very merry Christmas to all, and hopefully a prosperous and healthy new year.

Six books later, I'd have to say I am now a big fan of his too. Wishing everyone here a very Merry Christmas, a happy Chanukah and a happy and prosperous New Year. Cheers, Jioffe.

Hmm, formal review eh? No pressure then!! Actually Tull were indeed on fine form on Monday night. As advertised it wasn't a Tull gig but a service of carols and readings interspersed with acoustic numbers from Tull. The evening kicked off with a welcome from Ian Anderson & Tull opening up with Weathercock and the unusual request that we left the clapping to the end of the service. After another greeting, this time from the Rev'd George Pitcher we were treated to the choir singing William Waltons What Cheer? Now choral music is not really my usual cup of tea but the St Brides choir really are quite special. Rev'd George Pitcher then gave a brief reading before Tull returned for A Christmas Song & Living In These Hard Times which was followed by the first Hymn Silent Night with choir...and us! Ian Anderson then gave the second reading, an excerpt from Walter Scotts Marmion accompanied by John O Hara on the organ and Tull then played Jack In The Green. The Choir then sang a haunting In The Bleak Midwinter followed by Tull with Another Christmas Song. Author & Journalist Gavin Esler gave the next reading, again accompanied by John O Hara. Next up was the congregational carol O Come All Ye Faithful with the choir and I must note the fact that everyone joined in and the congregation singing was very enthusiastic. Best selling Thriller writer, Stand Up comedian (and friend of Ian Anderson) Mark Billingham gave the next reading accompanied by some lovely acoustic guitar playing from Martin Barre. Tull then played A Winter Snowscape from The Christmas Album followed by the fifth reading from actor Andrew Lincoln. Fires At Midnight came next and We Five Kings followed a short prayer from Canon David Meara we were treated to one of the evenings many highlights, Jethro Tull playing Gaudete with the choir singing and, during the second part of the song after a bit of encouragement from Ian Anderson...us singing too! The evening ended with Tull's Christmas Album version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen with a blessing from George Pitcher and then the traditional version of the song with again all heartily joining in and little teaser of Thick As A Brick at the finish for a prefect finish to the night. All in all a lovely evening, a unique performance from Tull with some rarely performed songs in a lovely setting and all for a good cause too. And in good company too, great to see you both again Mr & Mrs Quizz. As you said we only ever see each other at Tull gigs but what better place eh? Happy Christmas to you to my friend (and of course to one and all too!)

Thanks for the review, Col. Sounded like a great concert. I would've gone except it was too far to travel, that sounded weird seen as though i traveled all the way to Prague to see Tull last month!

Who else but Tull would do something like this. It was a great idea, and from the review it sounds like Ian pulled it off quite well. I wish they would have played one or two of these shows in New York. Reminds me of the Rubbing Elbows tour, a completely unique and inconventional show.

You're welcome all, I'm no writer so thanks for the thanks This was the third year in succession that IA & Tull did a charity service at St Brides, although last year was a private event so hopefully this is something that is an ongoing thing with Ian and not a one off. My lack of writing prowess does no justice to what was a magical evening of Tull music in an intimate setting and I thoroughly recommend if it happens you go if you can next year. It was like going round to Ian's house and having a private Tull show in his lounge! (in fact, if the legends of Ian's house are to be believed it might well have been smaller than his lounge!!)

Great Write up and Pics, Col!
I'm not at all a fan of Christmas music (too many years playing it in school) but I would have loved to have seen such a unique and intimate performance, I'm jealous!
