Special thanks to Our Club for the Basilica della Ghiara LINK
Thursday, December 13, 2018, at 21, in the beautiful scenery of the Basilica of Reggio Emilia,
Ian Anderson, the most famous rock flutist of all time, historical leader of the legendary Jethro Tull,
will hold with his band the concert "The Christmas Jethro Tull "; guest of honor is the great
Italian flautist Andrea Griminelli. At the organ of the Basilica the maestro Renato Negri.
The Bishop of Reggio Mons. Camisasca gave his extraordinary permission to perform the concert,
the Municipality (which owns it) has granted the Basilica, Anderson and Griminelli have renounced
any compensation. The concert is beneficial and the Rotary Club of Reggio Emilia Val di Secchia,
organizing body, will donate all proceeds to the celebrations of the 400th anniversary
of the Basilica of Reggio Emilia, which will take place from April to December 2019, to remind us
that on May 12, 1619 the miraculous fresco depicting the Blessed Virgin of the Ghiara was moved
from the wall of the old convent of the fathers served to the new altar in the magnificent newly built
sanctuary, with the contemporary inauguration of the Temple.
Also the other Rotary reggiani will contribute to the service.
Crédit Agricole, which has always supported culture and is committed to enhancing the Italian artistic
heritage, will not only be the sole sponsor of the concert on December 13 but will also participate in
the fundraising for the 400 years of the Basilica della Ghiara.
Ian Anderson, who celebrated this year the 50th anniversary of the founding of Jethro Tull with a
long series of concerts all over the world, has been performing well in Christmas concerts for more than a
decade in the most prestigious English cathedrals. In Reggio he will be accompanied by his current group,
composed by John O'Hara on keyboards, Florian Opahle on electric guitar,
David Goodier on bass, and Scott Hammond on drums.
As for the guest of honor, Andrea Griminelli, is a Reggian glory: a great flautist of international fame,
during his career he has performed with Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli,
and with famous pop stars like Sting and Anderson himself.
The final repertoire of the evening will remain a surprise until the last, but surely Anderson will at least
partially follow the playlist of his usual Christmas benefits concerts, ranging from English folk,
traditional Christmas music, and Jethro's greatest hits. In this case, the presence of Griminelli will add
a more classic touch, and the two artists will duet in historical songs by Tull as Bourée (a reworking from Bach)
and in other less known, but equally beautiful, as "Griminelli's Lament",
a piece composed by Anderson some time ago specifically for the flautist of Reggio.
And who knows, maybe Andrea Griminelli will not resist the temptation to back Anderson in the performance
of some of the most rocking Jethro songs. But the flutist from Reggio will also perform, by himself.
