www.ledburyreporter.co.uk/news/16276577.jethro-tull-front-man-to-bring-christmas-concert-to-hereford-cathedral/7th June Jethro Tull front man to bring Christmas concert to Hereford CathedralRobert Hale Rock legend Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull will be performing a Christmas concert at Hereford Cathedral in December. Over the last ten years, Ian Anderson has played in many of the UK's great cathedrals and churches, helping to raise much-needed funds for their preservation. Usually based on a Christmas theme, he features prominently the work of Jethro Tull as written and recorded since 1968. Added to this are several pieces from the classical repertoire and the traditional musical liturgy of the Church of England. Ian Anderson says: “Whether your Christmas is a secular affair of gift-giving and family togetherness or a more worshipful recognition of one of the two biggest days in the Christian calendar, join us for some uplifting Christmas spirit, music, readings and maybe even a prayer or two. “100 per cent of the sales of tickets go to the upkeep of the buildings and, perhaps, also in support of the musical liturgy of the cathedral. "I try to balance the festive time of year in song with a few of the elements of an old-fashioned carol service, all delivered with good humour and good cheer." Ian Anderson will perform the concert on Tuesday, December 18, at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the cathedral shop on 01432 374210 and online at herefordcathedral.org. All the proceeds will go to the Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust. www.herefordcathedral.org/Event/the-christmas-jethro-tullThe Christmas Jethro TullHereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust are very pleased to announce that rock legend Ian Anderson will present The Christmas Jethro Tull at Hereford Cathedral on Tuesday 18 December. www.glitchmagazine.eu/musica/2018-musica/2018/11/22/natale-in-chiave-prog-jethro-tull-inchiesa-bologna-reggio-emilia/Christmas in key Prog, the Jethro Tull live in church in Bologna and Reggio Emiliaby Daniela Cisi - November 22, 2018 BOLOGNA and REGGIO EMILIA - Jethro Tull by Ian Anderson arrives in Italy on 12 and 13 December, with a Christmas mini-tour that will see them perform in two exceptional locations: the Church of San Salvatore in Bologna and the Basilica of the Ghiara in Reggio Emilia. It will not be necessary to wait for March to see Jethro Tull in concert , after announcing the dates of their spring tour for 2019 (all info here ), they are planning to surprise a Christmas minitour in our country with two exceptional dates in Bologna and Reggio Emilia. Anomalous and completely new locations: the church of San Salvatore in Bologna and the Basilica della Ghiara in Reggio Emilia . The Emilian dates are an integral part of the "Christmas Jethro Tull" Tour , a limited series of Christmas concerts (five) strongly desired by Ian Anderson and whose proceeds will be donated to charity . The two live Italians are added to the three already scheduled for December in England, the first of which will be held on December 1 at Chester Cathedral , spiritual center of the diocese of Chester, near Liverpool, a beautiful medieval building that in addition to regular religious services not infrequently concerts of classical and religious music. After this date the group will move to Italy for the concerts of Bologna and Reggio 12-13 December, and then return home to perform on December 17 at Birmingham Cathedral and on 18 December at Hereford Cathedral . The repertoire of the evenings will remain a surprise until the last, although it is not difficult to imagine that a large part of the setlist will follow the lineup of previous Christmas concerts, proposed several times by Ian Anderson in a limited number of countries, drawing heavily from repertoire of Jethro Tull, from the great classics of English folk and from the most traditional music related to Christmas. Among the recurrent choices , which is reasonable to think will be re-proposed: the opening on Dun Ringill , an acoustic piece taken from the album Stormwatch of 1979 that has its roots in English folk and condemns with gloomy and apocalyptic tones the behavior of modern man, only interested in economic growth with dangerous repercussions on the environment and on the fate of humanity. And the closing, almost unchanged in all the Christmas concerts from 2004 to today, on Locomotive Breath , the legendary song taken from Aqualong , the iconic 1971 album, in which Ian Anderson delivers to the history of Rock one of the most flute solo solos evocative and complex of all time. Also, we hope, Christmas Song ( The Jethro Tull Christmas Album, 2003) and Bourrée, the legendary cover of Bourrée in E minor by Johann Sebastian Bach, from Stand Up . The ratio of Ian Anderson by faith has always been intricate and complex , as well as intricate and complex in the discography of Jethro Tull is the succession of references to the holiday season , in which the English minstrel has never failed to relate in ways provocative and not easy to read . An example for all Aqualongon the cover of which stands the image of a beggar dressed in rags, with a hallucinated look, halfway between Santa Claus and a crazy murderer, behind which stands a poster that sarcastically invites to celebrate Christmas. An open act of accusation against contemporary society, condemning his blind pursuit of wealth, but also a representation that is anything but reassuring - and at least less than good and Christian - of poverty. It will be a different Christmas concert , the one to which Bologna and Reggio Emilia have opened the doors, because in the vision of Jethro Tull Christmas is a crossroads of inextricable contradictions, a point of junction of the eternal chasing of Christian and pagan traditions , place in in which the consumerism of the first evokes scenarios as dark as the most primitive sides of the latter. To further engross the cards the always elusive and desecrating tones of Anderson, who alternates with the utmost ease gentle medieval ballads, sacred music and unsettling enclosures worthy of the most irreverent of Shakespearean jesters. To put it in his words: "May your Christmas be a lay Christmas made of exchanges of gifts and family gatherings or the wonderful tribute to one of the major occurrences of the Christian calendar, join us to give life to a spiritually edifying moment, made of music, readings and perhaps even some prayers " "Gathering people of all backgrounds, cultures and faiths in this way is today possible, perhaps, only under the auspices of modern Christianity, especially of the Anglican Church. So if we can help to involve people in these beautiful and historic spaces to savor only a little of the Christmas spirit it seems like it will be a precious effort " "Hey, Santa: pass us that bottle, will you?" As they looked pretty static to me Indeed it was a bid odd compared to the other five Cathedral concerts I've been to. Tough audience it would seem. Double espressos all around in order. Come on not even foot tapping!

Shonagh Duncan - Solo Piper LINK Shonagh is a Solo Bagpiper and has been piping for around 14 years. Shonagh provides Highland Bagpipe music for a variety of events, from weddings, birthdays, university balls, and funerals, to sporting, corporate and cultural events. Shonagh was originally based in the Scottish Borders, where she learned to play the Bagpipes there, and played at various functions. This was expanded when she relocated to Edinburgh, and most recently, to Chester, England. Maureen Messmarri Been to see Jethro Tull Christmas show. It was great. In Chester we have a Scottish piper busker. He had her piping in full regalia . The whole night was AWESOME !!!
