I've been listening to the 19th March 1972 Wolverhampton performance. Before A New Day, two 'posh' female voices are heard discussing Tull songs - Jeffrey Goes To Leicester Square is mentioned, then they start umming the A New Day Yesterday riff, which JHH then starts to play on the bass before the band joins him.
Obviously, this is a recording but can anyone offer a full transcription of what is said? And does anyone remember how this played out on stage?

It goes something like this:
"What was the name of that song they used to play? To Cry you a Song...no no - it was something else - Jeffrey goes to Leicester Square. Yes, that the one, it goes duh duh duh duh duh, duhduhduhdduh" (opening notes of a New Day Yesterday). I remember as the "posh" ladies were saying this, the band was looking all around, mystified, trying to figure out where the voices were coming from, Ian even looked under the tails of his waistcoat.

Thanks for that! I discovered a transcription on Tullpress's detailed description of the TAAB show. One of those things that really needs visual accompaniment! Must have been very funny to watch....

It was featured on at least two of the bootlegs most available in that era. My favorite Ian-ism from that tour is still ' Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ and John Lennon'....I still mutter that around the house fairly frequently. I think he said it in response to floor crowding.

I cannot tell you how much my workday was improved by a thorough immersion in Tullpress' TAAB Tour. What a brilliant rehash. How have I not seen it all these years? but better late than never. I will surely stroll down THAT memory lane again and share it with friends who will appreciate the trip. Is it too late to deliver a tiny quibble? I think...but am not sure...that Martin Barre pealed off guitar notes, not peeled...but both peal ( like a bell ringing) or 'peel' could be right. If you change it...I can feel like I helped....but I bow before your role in Tull history keeping and am so glad you visit frequently.

Ta -- that link has never been particularly prominent on the home page .. in fact, it was even less prominent than it is now, after the site update: the link used to say 'Brick special', which didn't reveal very much, and didn't get many visits as a result. I know what you mean about pealed, like bells, but the phrase is 'peeled off' -- it's one of those rock music journalism things (see also 'shredding' for another cookery-based metaphor!). I've seen it used elsewhere, and some examples online, e.g. www.australianmusiccentre.com.au/article/the-sound-lounge

Trust me, I trust you when it comes to rock and roll vocabulary.

I remember with great fondness the TAAB show I saw June 11, 1972. I was in an "enhanced" state and every fiber of my being was absorbed by the stage performance. It was as though I had been whisked away to some alternate universe for 2 1/2 hours and then deposited back in the Seattle Center Coliseum when the house lights came on. Best concert of my life.
