Let's forget about ranking the albums for a moment. Some of my favorite Tull/ Anderson albums I seldom listen to for various reasons. Which albums do you ACTUALLY listen to the most? Here are mine in a somewhat order most to less most: 1. Benefit, 2. Heavy Horses 3. Homo Erraticus, 4. Stand Up, 5. This Was, 6. SLOB
I tend to listen to what I call "Condensed Cream of Tull" The 5 - 7 songs which to me are the essence of an album. I save the epics for trips and special occasions. Lately I can't quit Benefit, my first Tullian love. A year ago, "A" was at the top of the list, so, of course it changes.

I actually listen more to Tull concerts than their official releases as I feel the band was most dynamic and entertaining on stage. I love listening at pretty high volume on the excellent sound system I've put together in my living room, almost like being there. As for the albums, Thick as a Brick, Stand Up, Aqualung and Songs from the Wood are my favorites. And let's not forget A Passion Play.

Whereas with other artists I do tend to have a "favourite" album, these days with the Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson/Martin Barre output I tend to pick and choose individual songs - current favourite would be Change Of Horses followed by selected pieces from A Passion Play. If push comes to shove I would select APP and Benefit as my two most listened to at the moment, followed by TAAB2.

I rarely listen to full Albums anymore, and I prefer personal compilations of favorite songs on either CD(Car Stereo) or USB Drive for home sound system. The exception to this would be Albums like "Passion Play" and "Thick AS A Brick" that is better experienced in its entirety. Having said that, most of my favorite Tull songs are from my personal top 5 albums(Aqualung, SFTW, Stand Up, Minstrel and Heavy Horses). I would also add Ian's "The Secret Language of Birds" and "Rupi's Dance" to that rotation of heavily played albums.

Just finishing Stand Up as I post. What a tremendous album and arguably their finest. Besides Stand Up the others I listen to most often would probably be Heavy Horses, Roots and Minstrel.

Left on my own, over the years, I would say I listen to the big boys the most: APP, TAAB, Minstrel...but I am very directable so the ongoing re-releases have defined my listening...each time one of the deluxe editions has landed on my door step, it has gotten a lot of attention for many weeks...the new songs and alternate versions, of course, lots of time with the original songs that may have been neglected for awhile and full absorption of live stuff thrown in. And when TAAB2 and HE were new, they got a lot of attention too. I like my live collection as well and it is varied enough that I can grab something unlabeled and random and usually be happy with what I am hearing.
