Hello everyone, I just found an old sample and since I can't recognize it, I am wondering which song it is. [see attachment] or listen the sample hereIs it Anderson, or could it be for example: Thijs van Leer? (Focus) And, excuse me if... you know, I know pretty much songs by Tull, but to be honest, since this sound-clip is so short.. I doubt about who's this flautist. Please, help me out! Thanks in advance! Attachments:song I forgot about.mp3 (202.85 KB)

Welcome to the Forum break28Have a look around and we welcome your contributions.

Do I understand correctly; Are you confirming that it is certainly Thijs van Leer?

Do I understand correctly; Are you confirming that it is certainly Thijs van Leer? For me - 'most likely'

Do I understand correctly; Are you confirming that it is certainly Thijs van Leer? While I can't conclusively confirm it's Thijs, it's not a passage of music that I ever heard Tull play. Now having said that, if it's not Thijs then it could be a any number of flute/rock bands with a similar sound to Jethro Tull. One that I know of and actually rate quite a lot is Steamhammer When All Your Friends Are Gone (LIVE 1969) and another could be Horslips. Trouble With A Capital T

Never heard of Steamhammer. Flute player def got the Anderson vibe in flute (obviously not as good) and in bushy hair 'curtains'.
I've said it once and I'll have to say it again, I'm the only person that doesn't see the similarity in Horslips and Tull. The amount of people who when I mention Tull, then go on to mention Horslips is pretty high.. I think it's the Irish music thing -that overrides any Tull link for me. I don't know of any Irish sounding Tull music. Happy to be corrected.

Thanks so far. Well, listening the sample since a long while my first thoughts were Jethro Tull and Focus. listen these two videos: 2.41 minute www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lgyv3hI6P40.17 minute or 2.02 minute www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt_xv9Cbl-wor this: (same song , same group as link above) www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeuLT1V27HUIf you listen to the soundclip, by hearing the flute.. the way it's been playing.. indeed, as said, I agree that it has the Anderson vibe.., but if you for example focus on the drum patterns or bass, what does it really sound like.. Hmm Anyway, I've heard more music from other more 'unknown' bands from that same era with a pretty similar sound, so this makes it more difficult to find out. Like more a few 'eastern bloc' bands, know what I mean? What do you guys think?

There are quite a few eastern European groups who copied the Tull sound in the early 70s, many who are quoted in magazines such as Record Collector as being quite collectable and worth a listen. Unfortunately if they are on youtube are a disapointment. Never heard of Steamhammer. Flute player def got the Anderson vibe in flute (obviously not as good) and in bushy hair 'curtains'. It's not so much that Horslips sounded like Tull, although to my ears some of their music had the Tull influence, but the fact that rather like Tull and others such as the Moody Blues, Genesis et al, they used the flute in a way not usually utilized before.

Ian Anderson talks flute (there must be a name for that: flute speak, flute spiel, flute waffle ?)

Somehow, I have the idea that there is a need to search in the Eastern European area.
