This is the one I'll be attending. I'm both overjoyed and saddened. Overjoyed that I'll get to see Ian again, but sad that this USA tour is going to be at outdoor venues. These are going to be the over-the-top-loud type of concerts with the drunk-"Aqualung"-shouting-obnoxious-hooting-during-the-songs-and-screaming-during-Ian's-dialogue-"Which one is Jethro"-crowd. I really dislike the rowdy outdoor drunk classic rock concerts. Last saw Ian up in Canandaigua and almost got thrown up on. Everybody was talking during the songs, drunk people were driving like jerks in the parking lot, and the entire place was trashed with litter and spilled beverages at the end of the night. First time I wished I would've stayed home. Maybe I'm getting too old. Maybe I'm getting too bitter. But maybe, just maybe, I want to enjoy the MUSIC over the "party" atmosphere. Ian, go back to the theater shows. You've said so yourself SEVERAL times that you dislike the outdoor "classic rock" summer shows in the USA because of the drunk, disrespectful audiences. Why do you keep booking them?

Here I thought 'pre-sale' meant tickets a day early for smart guys like me who use the interweb...but NOOOOO...you need a code to get presale, like if you use the right flavor credit card or are buying a whole series for concerts like Eddie Money and Beach Boys for next summer. So no tickets yet for Berkeley and Sacramento in June...but I can buy them tomorrow....after all the scalpers and resale artists have had their turn. I too far prefer the theater shows, even at higher cost, than the outdoor hellholes they are playing on most of the west coast...in fact, I thought I would never say this, even the damn casino circuit is more civilized...the casinos have pretty nice performing spaces and it's just as easy to ignore busloads of gamblers as barfing party boys. (see above). Waiot...am I complaining about 2 TUll concerts next June?

Got great seats in Sacramento and not terrible ones in Berkeley. Might dash to Visalia or Paso Robles to meet erstwhile best Tull buddy for more depending on typical Rubik's cube of variables when the California Tull week comes next summer. It's good to have Tull tickets. June is a long way off...but still !!! I know I could have gotten better Berkeley seats by waiting till day of the show but I want Ian to see robust ticket sales down the road to keep him in a good mood and keep Banker Bets and Frankenfeld in the set so 'Farm on the Freeway' isn't 'the new stuff'. !!!

www.chroniclelive.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/jethro-tull-newcastle-alan-nichol-14109180Jethro Tull in Newcastle - Alan Nichol celebrates spring highlights of roots music scene Upcoming North East programme also features stars from Randy Newman to Joe BonamassaByAlan Nichol 08:09, 4 JAN 2018 (Image: Alan Nichol)Alan Nichol looks forward to Jethro Tull’s 50-year music milestone and this spring’s other North East highlights. As the daylight hours start to lengthen once again and the diary fills with gigs of all types, we can have a quick look at what the first part of the year has in store. One significant musical milestone of 2018 is the huge 50-year anniversary tour to be undertaken by Jethro Tull. This starts in the spring and brings the band to Newcastle City Hall on April 5 before they head-off to the US, Russia, continental Europe and back to Canada/US as the year unfolds. Singer, flautist and writer Ian Anderson had been playing in blues-inclined bands like The Blades in and beyond his Blackpool hometown (he was actually born in Dunfermline, Fife) prior to 1968 - before adopting the name of the pioneering English agriculturalist - but that was the year that Tull released their debut single, Sunshine Day, for MGM. Gremlins, however, contrived to call the band “Jethro Toe” on the record-label (making the single instantly collectible). It was not the most auspicious start, especially in light of the fact that 1968 was a widely acknowledged classic year for memorable releases. Albums such as The Band’s Music From Big Pink, The Beatles (White album), Electric Ladyland (Hendrix), Lady Soul (Aretha), Sweetheart of the Rodeo (Byrds), Astral Weeks (Van Morrison), Creedence Clearwater Revival (debut) and the Rolling Stones’ Beggars Banquet were among the year’s - and some would say the era’s - defining recordings. Nevertheless, the band went on to sell albums in the tens of millions - Aqualung sold in excess of seven million alone - to establish a worldwide musical brand which, rather like the Rolling Stones, shows little sign of diminishing. Ian Anderson has achieved many things away from music - in farming, photography, cooking, charity work and ecology plus an MBE in 2008 - but his five-decade long association with Jethro Tull eclipses them all.
