Well we know that he can't sit still. I was trying to find the right word - he neither flirts nor flits and I wouldn't describe him as mercurial. However I would suggest that he is adventurous in music and projects, dauntless and dogged in carrying them out and already thinking about new ones. looking at his background and what we know, although his childhood was relatively normal as anyone's could be, the "big move" to England in his early teens may have contributed to him being adventurous later on. His life in the mid 60's and at the start of Tull - the musical gypsy life, may also have been (a big) factor in shaping his life since then. I was thinking along these lines recently and lo and behold up comes an interview that throws a bit of light on what he thinks of his attitude to his craft. jethrotull.proboards.com/post/68926IAN ANDERSON:... If by that you mean jack of all trades, master of none, the answer is yes. DOMINIC: I wouldn’t dare to be so insulting. IAN ANDERSON: That’s sort of how I see myself as someone who is , I’m kind of like a good Polish builder, I can fix your plumbing , lay a carpet, I can mend your roof . I’m the guy who can reliably do a bit of that and a bit of that. But I’m not particularly well trained in any particular area but sometimes people like people like me and, dare I say, Polish builders because they’re hard working, they deliver the goods, they get the job done and they have a variety of skills and they do so with I suppose a degree of passion and they like what they do and they want you to like what they do. That’s my approach to music. I’m there primarily to do this for me and for me to enjoy what I do but if you’re enjoying it too that’s a real big bonus.

I read once, a million years ago, a quote from Ian saying something to the effect that other bands were drug-fueled but Jethro Tull is Michelob-fueled... or something to that effect. Always wanted to find that quote again and re-read where it came from. --Ron--

That messianic post was a combination of APP remix on the way to work and lapsed Tourettes medication. I know we have to work together to keep our little forum off the 'watch' list.

We're already on the 'watch list' Bernie, both by authorised sources and other malcontents. My meds are up to date. Increased usage of a rather large tablet from 2 to 4 a day reminded me of an off the cuff remark my mate Dave G. said many years ago to his doctor when told he would have to use a suppository. "A suppository doctor ? Well you can can stick that up your ar5e"

This is Ian Anderson's School of Stage Presence and Showmanship Video by uk7769 Ha, ha... and some of Ian's moves I actually find to be very funny... and to me good music almost always have the element of fun... He's also clearly using his hands and sometimes whole body to conduct the band like a conductor of an orchestra... So it's not just fun and games...

Jethro Tull’s frontman and his passion for ‘the hot stuff’ LINK By Antonia Filmer | 14 January, 2017 The singer and musician Ian Anderson is a horticultural ninja about chillies, he sows them in March, grows them, harvests and washes them, then freezes them. He knows the historical taxonomy of every strain of chilli pepper. The seeds he grows germinate by his indoor swimming pool in a lovelyhumid temperate environment then progress to the greenhouse, where he plays the flute to them and he is sure that this enhances their growth. Anderson’s passion for chilli and spices began early in his career, his band Jethro Tull, had a drummer of Indian origin named Richie Dharma, who invited them all to a home cooked lunch by his mother. There was a secret conspiracy to tease the lily livered British boys by serving a “blindingly hot” egg curry; Anderson was the only one who passed the test whilst the others sweated to sniggers, that lunch set the tone for future meals on tour. Anderson is now an authority on British Indian cuisine and curry, he says that out of the 1,000 “Indian” restaurants in UK about 800 are Pakistani or Bangladeshi cuisine, over the years all 30 members of Jethro Tull have sought out the remaining 200 genuine Indian restaurants whilst on tour, actually he says they count on curries. Last year Anderson harvested a bumper crop of Bhut Jolokia peppers, enough to fill a whole freezer; he says “until ten years ago this was the hottest chilli on the planet."Last year Anderson harvested a bumper crop of Bhut Jolokia peppers, enough to fill a whole freezer; he says “until ten years ago this was the hottest chilli on the planet according to the Scoville scale which measures the pungency of chilli peppers”. Anderson also powders his crop as it is easy to take on overseas tours in a small vial; finding French, German and Italian restaurants a bit bland for his taste he furtively enlivens dishes with a “teeny” sprinkling of Bhut Jolokia so as not to offend the chef. His enjoyment of Indian food is largely vegetarian favouring dhal, cauliflower and spinach dishes with rice. He often cooks with his son-in-law Andrew Lincoln, a fellow “curry freak” and the actor who plays the zombie killer Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead; recently they prepared a slow cooked lamb curry for the whole family, they share a taste for Indian national cuisine not the pedestrian variety. Anderson is so smitten by curry he even has an advisory page and guide to choosing Indian food on his website Home page.
Anderson has been touring for 39 years, he has played in Delhi, Bangalore, Madras and Mumbai and between performances savoured every mouthful; in the past he has played at the Prince of Wales Trust Concert - Prince Charles also believes that plants respond when engaged with; this year the band is in touring in Europe and they have 3 tours in the US planned, they will be on the lookout for the authentic Indian restaurants en-route and if all else fails there is the vial of the hot stuff.
