I've thought about this for a while and to be honest I thought of the title first but not sure what the content of the thread should be so... open to everyone! While spending hours days on Twitter or YouTube you come across all sorts of comments about Tull and there's loads from younger people discovering Tull for the first time. I think we should have a place here on the Forum for people (not just young) who have seen the light! It does warm the cockles ( or as Ian might say "warms the coffers) to see younger people appreciating Tull and other bands from the past Here's another professor with another study " Why Do Young People Listen To Old Rock Music"

Ok I suppose it's inevitable - The Tull Bucket List!!
A list for someone who has maybe only heard Loco or Aqua.. and is dipping their toes in the Tullpool. Not necessarily your favourite but a list of say 10 (?) songs that showcase the multiple talents and music of Tull. Participation is compulsory and with a short paragraph explaining your choice.

This Was 1968
My Sunday Feeling - Live Isle Of Wight
I chose this not only for the great blues song typical of the early days but also because of the video showing the rawness, energy and brilliance of the band and the wit of the front man.

Ditto. Track one, side one of This Was - mono release. Bought from a West Croydon record shop which had listening booths. It seemed to be the only release at that time in '68 which had no lettering on the cover to indicate to the uninitiated who the hell it was but you just knew . . . . . The music press was full of just how great Tull would be in the future and full of interviews with IA & Co. I still have that very battered and bruised vinyl copy of This Was - in fact it will be with me for the duration and beyond

Stand Up 1969Really,really hard to choose but in the interest of pointing at one, I would choose Look Into The Sun. This was Tull going acoustic, with sublime melody yet still blues and jazz. Ian's lyrics were still a bit "in their infancy",the clever, imaginative, witty and romantic ones are still a couple* of albums away. *not an exact figure

No 'Overseer Overture" my only small complaint, actually...great list but the O O might be the best few minutes of all Tull. That and the middle of the flute solos in the mid to late seventies well captured on Bursting Out.

We can't have every song . Many goodies missed out. I couldn't add 4 songs from 87 and 89 because of the late 80s recording sound of certain songs. But things might change if these albums get remixed. I tried to steer away of anything that may sound a bit outdated or simplistic and I included plenty of non album tracks

I also tried to mimimise commercial tracks. Not many of the usual best of tracks. Left right would fade in from the 25 second mark lol. The upcoming remixes will probably bring out some more classics. I'm your gun would sound awesome with a slight remix. No band comes close to Tull

What, no Budapest? Sacrilege! (Just kidding). Wait! No, I'm not.
Actually, your list is very eclectic. Very cool. Silver River Turning is the hidden gem. Great that you included that. A piece of musical beauty that has been unnoticed by almost everyone. That, and The Whalers Dues. I miss this particular sound of late 80's Tull. If I changed the list at all, would be the addition of Whalers Dues. And yes, of course Flight From Lucifer and O.O.

"Well meaning fool pick up thy bed and rise..." a literal and figurative miracle of music. A top five Andersonian moment! From the first time I heard that line and that music, I had never heard any thing so beautiful. how could someone be that inspired to write that? An absolute miracle. And what follows ain't bad either.

Budapest could be awesome remixed. My wish is they take out the reverb and high frequencies from the drums and maybe layer Ians voice a tiny bit so he sounds more like his age at the time lol

When it was released it had been quite a few years since the last time I thought he released a good song (that song would be Broadsword). But, I had heard it in concert prior to hearing the album. I've always been blown away by the song. The drum reverb seemed to be something he was into at the time. I actually welcomed the new sound (far more than I welcomed Under Wraps new "sound"...dear Lord). I'm sure there is a few unreleased takes of Budapest sitting in the vault (with his actual voice). But, everyone was doing it at the time. "One World" by Dire Straits, "Yet Another Movie", Gilmour.

Taking into account that any newbie will have listened to Aqualung from the start however for the sake of adding it to the thread, I choose My God as the biggie 'religious pondering' song and for the early jaw-dropping performance.

I'm an ESOL English teacher (in the E.U. now) and I relate with my teen students every day. I usually talk (in English) with them about music and their tastes and they love it ! One particular student openly admitted being a "rocker amidst a flurry of wimpy popsters" so I discovered that she loves Pink Floyd, Queen and ...aye aye....Jethro Tull ! Not many teen rockers out there know Tull, let alone the band's music.

A few times a year, I will meet someone who does not understand / like / know / appreciate their music. I will burn a few discs for them based on the style of music the person likes. I usually get a warm and surprised response.
It is "up to me"....er...up to us, rather to keep the torch going. After all, it is an old day now!
