There are no other songs about Weathercocks ( well one called Weathercock by a Japanese duo with no lyrics)
Loads of songs about Michael Collins the Irish revolutionary leader but only one about Michael Collins the astronaut.

Off the top of my head 'Moths'? - Good thread Ms Rabbit. There is one by a band called Racing Glaciers however the only mention of a moth is the (usual saying) 'moth to a flame' So we can add to this thread by saying 'subjects that Ian has written (originally) about and in detail' Be interesting to see also if any songs with the same subject sound like Ian's original.

The obvious is not one but two 'period pieces'...The Curse and Salamander's Ragtime....but I'm sure in less blatant ways this topic has been sung about, written about or inspired by...many many times.

Imagining the point of view of the guy who got almost to the moon, Michael Collins, was an Ian only song. Same for pigeons contemplating caged animals at the zoo....and Jesus in the corner pub band?

and then we have the Skye connection. There's plenty of swirly Scottish songs about the purrrple heatherrr, the Highlands and the bagpipes but only one about Dun Ringill,or the fair that I don't think still runs at Broadford. Plenty songs too about sporrans but only one that mentions it's temperature or how it feels when it's stuffed wi' a right wad o' money.

Sossity
No other song called Sossity because there's no such word.
I read somewhere that Ian thought it was weak - making up a word that sounds vaguely about the subject matter. Personally, it's Benefit so it can do no wrong and through the mists of time it sounds good just to say it.

As a little aside to this thread it's quite interesting to compare some of Ian's songs that are more generic in subject matter to other similar songs from other artists.
Father and son relationship. I remember linking Ian's references to his father with Cat Stevens' song Father and Son at the time.
Benefit was mainly recorded December 1969 and January 1970. Father and Son was written or more precisely released later on in 1970.
Speaking to Rolling Stone Cat Stevens says; "I’ve never really understood my father, but he always let me do whatever I wanted—he let me go. 'Father And Son' is for those people who can’t break loose"

I was going to say Cousin Jack however as Cousin Jack means a Cornishman who left the tin mines of Cornwall to work abroad there is another song about that very subject. And very nice too.
I don't think Ian meant there to be any Cornish connotation in his use of Cousin Jack but then maybe he did.
By the way, if anyone is remotely interested in what I sound like I sound like the girl on the intro.

Rosa On The Factory Floor.
She moves with machinery for the fancy sports car trade Part of the industrial process: she sees that they stay made She works from early A.M.. They work her to the bone When I call her in the evening, she's too tired to lift the phone
Damned if I'll wait for her, and I'll be damned if I don't Damned if I only see that Rosa on the factory floor
Alright.
Signed on for the duration. They say she came from the East With her tool bag and her coveralls, to pay the rent at least She doesn't talk with workers on the rest of the line And over in the canteen, she's alone most of the time
Somewhere in her history is a lock without a key She doesn't trust the management and she won't trust me We're two different animals. We live jungles apart She circles round her freedom and I circle round her heart

Heavy HorsesHeavy Horses JT was released on the 10th April 1978. Heavy Horses a Scottish album (2004) of various artists, is produced by Robin Laing and consists of previously recorded songs plus others specially recorded and engineered by Davie Scott for the project to celebrate .. "At its peak, Scotland had around 140,000 farm horses, plus an unknown number in towns and cities, most which were Clydesdales. This album celebrates in song the contribution made by these beautiful 'gentle giants' i66.images obliterated by tinypic/mju2b8.jpg[/IMG] Includes this beautiful song Heavy Horses.

I'll drink to that statement That's why you two were the first to put your names down for the Tull themed pub tour of Britain. I think me and Ash should run a pub together. I think we would make good landlords. Mind you I'm not sure how much profit we'd make considering our love of beer. Now what would we call the pub? Here's a few of my suggestions. Please dear members feel free to add some more names. The Tull Head Mother Goose Inn The Tull 'n' Flute Another Harry's Bar The Weathercock The Waking Edge The Magus Perdé Arms
