Dale Griffin, drummer for rock group Mott The Hoople, has died aged 67. He was a founder member of the group, best known for classic tracks Roll Away The Stone and All The Young Dudes. The latter was written and produced by David Bowie, who sang backing vocals on the track. So sad that there's also a link to David Bowie. RIP Dale

After Mott he joined the venerable British Broadcasting Corporation and produced many of the John Peel sessions for Radio 1.

My group did a couple of John Peel sessions in the 80's and we had the honour of having one of them produced by Dale Griffin and he was a wonderful producer and a lovely friendly genuine guy. During a break in recording we went to a local pub with him and had a great time. All my group were fans of Mott The Hoople which made it even better. When we were getting ready to record an album for Stiff Records we asked Dale to produce it which sadly he couldnt do cos he was too busy working for the BBC, but he wrote us a lovely letter apologising and saying if he could he would have loved to do it

No fair teasing...tell your group. Beyond Tull, we have some serious rock fan nerds here (guilty). Who knows, maybe some fans of your band hidden in our ranks.
