Martin Barre (Jethro Tull) Returns to North AmericaSubmitted by Leighton Media on Mon, 03/21/2016 - 12:10 For 43 years Martin Barre was the renowned guitarist of Jethro Tull, and his role in the band cannot be overestimated. Bruce Eder wrote on allmusic.com, “His playing has provided much of the energy that allows the band to soar on record and in concert.” ...Emily Clark of Plymouth, MA’s Wicked Local was stunned by Martin’s presence, “He can do all intricate fingering, lace melody on top of melody and play lightning fast. But what he does that sets him apart is his on-the-spot arrangement of songs, his crafting of melodies that are truly beautiful and not just a case of show-off athletics and his understanding of when to shut up and when to roar…His love affair is with this song, not himself.”

Weekend @ BB KING BLUES CLUB & Grill with BERNIE Something special which I have sent an email to the Club in NEW YORK CITY BB King Painting by Bart Lindstrom I am from Tryon, North Carolina and live near Green River Gallery. There is a beautiful and authentic painting of BB King by artist Bart Lindstrom owned by Robert Morgan. Is there someone in your venue that might be interested in this? I saw BB King in 1974 with ZZ Top and was very lucky indeed. Also I have friends going to the show on April 10th with Martin Barre. Hope you may find this interesting to your business or personal decor. Thank you, Jim (JTull 007)

My first Martin Barre band concert was a revelation. On a score of 1 thru 10, considering expectations, I would give it a 20. It was so so so so great and so much better than imagined from videos...that just do not do the band justice. The feeling of every minute of every song is watching a hot band and a living legend at work....a band worth seeing anytime, anyhow, anywhere and a true addition to the Tull world. It was indeed an evening of rock, blues and Tull and all three components were breathtaking. The blues were deep and real , the rock was unique and boiling and the Tull songs included two SPOILER ALERT, that made me say somethin I NEVER thought I would say: Love Story and Sweet Dreams' were performed better by the MB band than the last outings that Ian ( Sweet Dreams) and Tull ( Love Story) gave them. More detailed review to follow...I better ctach up at work a little.

www.northjersey.com/arts-and-entertainment/music/jethro-tull-guitarist-aims-to-mix-it-up-on-his-own-1.1547053APRIL 18, 2016 LAST UPDATED: MONDAY, APRIL 18, 2016, 1:21 AM Martin Barre mum about his upcoming performance in Teaneck, loves surprising audiencesBY BRIAN ABERBACK MUSIC WHO: Martin Barre. WHAT: Rock and blues. WHEN: 9 p.m. Friday. WHERE: Mexicali Live, 1409 Queen Anne Road, Teaneck. 201-833-0011 or mexicalilive.com. HOW MUCH: $30. MORE INFO: martinbarre.com. Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre's concert on Friday in Teaneck is billed as "An Evening of Blues, Rock, Tull." Barre isn't giving away many specifics about his set, but fans will likely be surprised. "I like the idea that people buy tickets to a show not knowing what they are going to hear," said Barre, whose performances include plenty of improvisation and are not Jethro Tull greatest hits sets. "I don't want to be predictable," Barre said by phone from his home in England. "I look on Facebook and people who go the shows will say, 'I never thought they'd play that stuff.' Things should be on the edge. That's why I don't play [Jethro Tull signature song] "Aqualung." Instead, Barre favors deep cuts from the Tull pantheon, cover tunes and solo material, including from his impressive forthcoming album, "Back to Steel." A master of rearrangements, Barre said that even the more popular Tull songs and classic covers that he plays may not be instantly recognizable. Such is the case with Barre's inventive rock-and-blues version of the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" on "Back to Steel." "I don't see any point in reproducing a song that's already been done in the same style," Barre said. "I quite like taking things like classic songs and reconstructing them with my input to make them really fresh and different." Such reinterpretations don't always work onstage, nor do improvisations, but Barre said that's part of the fun of his exploratory live approach. "Sometimes something works one night but not another," he said. "But if you don't try different things it can become almost sterile, especially in this day and age when music sounds so much the same." Barre also varies his playing from album to album. "Back to Steel," which is available as an import and scheduled to be released in America this summer, is a drastic departure from predecessor "Away With Words" (2013). While the latter was a mainly instrumental album featuring acoustic reworkings of Tull tracks and original Barre compositions, "Back to Steel" sees the guitarist/singer returning to his blues-rock roots. "The acoustic stuff was very satisfying and refreshing," Barre said. "Then I thought, 'it's time to do what I do for a living.' Going back literally to steel [guitar] strings and pickups and amplifiers." "Back to Steel" features Barre wailing out fiery blues licks and emotive solos on songs like the title track, "Hammer" and "Moment of Madness." "It's Getting Better" takes a soulful feel and reflects Barre's positive outlook. "You don't know what's going to happen in life," he said. "You sort yourself mentally and physically for whatever may come. I've been playing music for a long time and I've been a survivor." Barre, 69, began his career playing with several bands in England in the mid-1960s. He joined Jethro Tull in late 1968 and made his debut on their second album, "Stand Up" (1969). Barre played a pivotal role in the band, which evolved from raw blues to progressive rock, firing off riffs on classic rock staples like "Aqualung," "Locomotive Breath" and "Hymn 41." Jethro Tull was one of the biggest bands of the 1970s, scoring five Top 10 albums including the No. 1's "Thick as a Brick" (1972) and "A Passion Play" (1973) and No. 2 "War Child" (1974). The band's 1980s output included "Crest of a Knave" (1987), which won a Grammy Award for best hard rock/metal performance, despite the fact that Jethro Tull has never been considered metal. While playing with Tull, Barre released his first solo album, "A Trick of Memory," in 1994. Jethro Tull continued to record and perform until frontman Ian Anderson decided in 2012 to concentrate exclusively on his solo career. Some 50 years since he began performing professionally, Barre said the riffs still come naturally. "I'm having fun playing, so it's never a chore," he said. "I sit down and play and I come up with something and think, 'there's an idea for a song here.' "
