I guess it's the travelling involved and maybe he likes to keep it within driving distance and only at one venue. What do I know.

Sorry mind you I bet you have some gorgeous winter scenes over there that would be worthy of a Christmas show. I had to google and find out why your town was called St Albans I only got as far as some invasion from Quebec - still don't know! Those early settlers really didn't have much imagination when it came to naming places .....New York.

Rod Argent would be good.
Wise words here from Rod n Colin especially about finding pleasure from unexpected tracks on an album and in return they become your favorites.

READ MORE: LA Times - Holidays and history make this city of Lincoln a British starThe Advent season springs to life through a variety of events and services at Lincoln Cathedral. The Nov. 21 performance of Handel’s Messiah is sold out, but tickets are still available for "Christmas by Candlelight," a concert by popular British vocal group G4 on Nov. 25. The cathedral will host a less traditional concert on Dec. 10 when singer Ian Anderson of the rock band Jethro Tull performs a benefit concert. All proceeds will be used to help maintain the historic house of worship. A full list of activities is posted online.

"... After spending most of his teens and early 20s as an "unsuccessful guitarist or slightly more successful writer", Grossman decamped to the London School of Economics, but found himself spending as much time in the city's legendary Marquee Club, getting into Deep Purple, the Nice, King Crimson, and the band he affectionately calls "the Tull" (as in Jethro). The Tull's singer Ian Anderson, he recalls, played flute standing on one leg wearing a codpiece. "They were bombastic even then," says Grossman..."
Didn't know that he used to write for Rolling Stone. www.theguardian.com/music/2010/mar/31/loyd-grossman-new-forbidden

Making more sense now When I was at St Bartholomew’s Church in Lower Basildon the vicar told Ian that Loyd Grossman was his close friend and a big Jethro Tull fan. Plus Loyd had always wanted to play on stage with the band. Ian paused and laughed a little, but I'm guessing Ian looked into the idea and now Loyd is the man

Jethro Tull legend Ian Anderson presents charity concert at St Albans Cathedral - Sophie Crockett A rock legend will be taking to the Cathedral this Friday (11) for a charity concert where all proceeds will be donated to the iconic St Albans landmark. Ian Anderson, front man of Jethro Tull, will perform at the Abbey with his band and special guests Marc Almond and the Abbey Singers for a now sold-out show. The musicians will perform a line-up of festive numbers alongside songs, old and new, from the Jethro Tull catalogue. The performance is part of an annual tradition for the musician, who performs a Christmas concert each year at a different cathedral with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the venue of choice. But the vocalist and guitar player maintains that his motivation for the performance is not a religious one. Ian said: “I’m not a Christian but I have a Christian ethic. It’s a place where the community come together, particularly at this time of year, to think of friends, family and those less fortunate.” Ian added that cathedrals were a central part of community life, not just for religious people. He continued: “I went through 40 years of my life where I didn’t find it comforting to be in a church. As a schoolboy I was in and out but it wasn’t something I felt comfortable with. “I thought it was just a building of worship but it’s much more than that. “They won’t be making any more of them, it will not come again, It’s not a case of just sticking up some bricks and mortar so it’s so important that we preserve these amazing buildings. It’s comforting to have them in a world where we are often moved more by the material things in life. It’s grounding.” The event is funded by Ian himself. who donates his time alongside his co-performers, and the evening is expected to raise about £15,000. The money raised will go towards the cathedral’s £7 million Alban development project, which aims to raise the profile of the Abbey and Britain’s first Saint, Alban.
