Gig review: THE GREAT BRITISH ROCK & BLUES FESTIVAL, Skegness MB Link
Martin Barre is wise enough to realise his own vocal shortcoming and gives Dan Crisp the task of emulating Ian Anderson’s early career phrasing on classic such as ‘Song For Jeffrey’, ‘Sweet Dream’ and ‘Locomotive Breath’. Sadly his choice of covers fails to match the Tull songs and the set visibly slumps.

Saw Martin setlist last year and deffo no slump in the set ,it rocks The strongest song he plays now is not even a Tull song but a Porcupine Tree cover

Pretty cool that Martin is making a beeline to Jim. Hope he comes West...I think he is going to have success in the USA....there are venues similar to the sizes he is playing in Germany...more associated with up and coming young bands than established icons....but properly booked I think he will sell tickets and enjoy the fans he has here. I can't wait.

PS...don't anyone be shy if they want to fly me to Iserhagen, Germany on my next birthday for Martin concert and German beers. I talk big but I'm a little guy so a cheap seat on the plane will be okay.

An Evening With Martin Barre Band (of Jethro Tull) MB Link 7pm doors, 8pm show. $20 ADV, $22 day of show. ALL AGES. Seated show...
Martin Barre has been the guitarist of Jethro Tull for 43 years, his sound and playing having been a major factor in their success. Album sales have exceeded 60 million units and they continue to be played worldwide, representing an important part of classic rock history.
Martin’s guitar playing has earned him a high level of respect and recognition; he was voted 25th best solo ever in the USA and 20th best solo ever in the UK for his playing on ‘Aqualung’. His playing on the album ‘Crest of a Knave’ earned him a Grammy award in 1988.
As well as numerous Jethro Tull albums, Martin has worked with many other artists including Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Gary Moore, Jo Bonamassa and Chris Thompson and has shared a stage with such legends as Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
As Jethro Tull are taking a long break from touring, Martin has put together a band to play the “classic” music from the Tull catalogue. His band is a total commitment to give the Tull fans and a broader audience the chance to hear tracks not performed for many years. The band includes top musicians from a similar background.

I hope to go, but the 6 hour drive to Asheville is a long way. I'm thankful that Martin decided to play NC anyway.

Martin's brand spanking new tour poster which I presume will have the individual concert details overprinted for each venue. Bit mystified as to why the wording is "Jethro Tull's Martin Barre Band" though, and his nose is a bit red

It is insightful that Martin advertises three distinct musical genres: Blues,Rock and Tull.

It is insightful that Martin advertises three distinct musical genres: Blues,Rock and Tull. That delightful Tull tone, certainly preferred to blues or rock...or anything dead. (stop me)

It is insightful that Martin advertises three distinct musical genres: Blues,Rock and Tull. Jethro Tull cannot be categorized... in that Martin is right... though Jethro Tull is also Rock, and Blues once in a while...
