New thread -anything about Drummers - good, bad, funny, informative or just your favourite. Viola Smith is an American drummer best known for her work in orchestras, swing bands, and popular music in the 1930s and 1940s. She was one of the first professional female drummers. i58.images obliterated by tinypic/2m76ux3.jpg[/IMG] 102 years old Here's Viola in action - with The Coquettes ( brilliant name)

Best three ever in rock: Baker, Moon, Barlow....not far behind: Bruford, Hart/Kreutzman (Grateful Dead)and Ed Cassady ( Spirit), Bunker. Overated noise: Bonham. Take or leave: Ringo, Charlie W., Mattacks Under-rated: Perry, Conway. Quite excellent: Scott Hammond,

Some good performances here and there, but I find his drumming in Broadsword rather dull, and same goes for most of the videos I've watched with him playing. Of course, there must be lots of stuff drummed by him that I haven't listened to... I'm only stating my opinion about the bits I have.

The ideal Tull drummer in my opinion is Doane Perry. The best I've seen is Barrie Barlow.

I agree that Conway was strong in some customized ways and not much good in other roles. ( rolls ?)

Back in the day when I didn't care what time I got home I used to go to a nearby night club and I think I saw The Peddlers about 4 times there. Trevor Morais on drums was brilliant so I always regarded him as one of my favourite drummers. Not much in the way of video's of The Peddlers but here's one I found with a very young looking Roger Whittaker introducing.

I always love watching Gilson Lavis play with The Jools Holland Big Band. A fantastic drummer! Mind you he still reminds me of John Le Mesurier
